I know this has probably been asked many times, but what's the most cost-effective way to get more status points. My manager's about 290 points away from platinum, with his membership anniversary being 30 September.
Are there any segments/zones/flight classes that accrue more status points?

Try the Australian Frequent Flyer website. There are many creative ways to go on status runs. Unfortunately due to some of the changes at Qantas there aren't as many good ways as there used to be but there are still some interesting strategies to use. It really depends on how much you value the status and how much you are willing to spend.
