Running Shoes!

I know everyones feet, gait, etc. are different….

BUT, in your opinion, what is your favourite or the best running shoe if money was not an issue? Best value?

Cheers all!

  • New Balance, if you have flat feet. Most come in a 4 different widths and most don't have arches. They are regularly on special on Amazon or other sporting clearance. You should be able to pick up a decent pair for $60ish.

That's where I have been getting my running shoes — just for the price :) New Balance Factory Outlet in Alexandria often have shoes under $60 during Boxing Day sales.

I used to buy brooks because I have large feet and the outlet in Melbourne was fairly cheap.

I like asics now though. The US is definitely the place to buy shoes.

Shoukd consider going to athletes foot, have them measure you up and recommend a shoe ( based on whether u need arch support or if you rolll in or out etc)
Them maybe get the first pair with them ( cause they did help ya) then in the future get from other places

Did this, previously had Nikes but they recommended asics kayanos which are pretty good,

    Mizuno Sayonara for me.

Very neutral shoe with a low heel to forefoot drop which all in all gives me incredibly solid and confident feel. Combined with the hard cap around the ankle provides a really stable and light weight shoe. Better yet, the seamless toe cup is an absolute dream for long distance like a half marathon or even a full marathon.

People say these are more of a short distance shoe, but I call BS on that. I've run probably a dozen half marathons and three marathons in them, couldn't be happier after near six pairs of the same shoe.

      +1 for Mizuno

Got a pair of wave paradox, I used to use Nike Lunar glides 4 and my feet hurts so much after just 10mins… with the wave paradox I was fine until I hit the 50min mark. They have some really good support for your heel and because I have borderline flat feet, the built in arch support makes the shoe really comfortable for me.

      • Sayonaras are very similar, probably less cushioning which can actually be better and feel far more stable in my opinion than Paradox.

It will take a little bit to get used to them though, but well worth it.

I don't think I will be using another shoe anytime soon, I got another four pairs when Rebel had 30% off about six weeks ago.

Whatever best suits your feet and running style. Personally I have run 20 marathons in Saucony Kinvara, but that is not to say it is good for everyone. If you intend to do a lot of running the best way to get a fit is to go to a running podiatrist who will watch you running on a treadmill and recommend a shoe. Athletes Foot's static system run by a kid who has had 10 minutes' training is maybe marginally better than nothing…..

    • I have run 20 marathons

Ironic coming from a guy called slow :) More like slow-n-steady

      • Marathons aren't about just speed, they are about consistency.

  • Currently Brooks GTS13. but was an Asics GT2170 fan till they changed it.

  • Great advice everyone. I used to run a lot competitively, but ankle, knee, and hip injuries have changed my focus more towards weight training and "machine" cardio. I'm still quite fit, but needed a new goal after recently losing some interest in exercise. Plan is to train to run the City2Surf, and figure I should invest in some new runners. Currently using some Kayano 20's I believe, which are about 2 years old with minimal mileage.

    Cheers!

    • Edit: Kayano 19's

  • +1 for new balance. Had baddeley 890's for the last 4 years and been very impressed (previously Nike free's and lunar glides)

    • Thanks. This is cool, although slightly dated now. Still works as a great guideline!

  • Thanks everyone. Ended up going into The Athlete's Foot with the intention of trying some out and then buying cheaper online. However, the service was great, and as a former retail employee, I feel strongly about rewarding good service.

Ended up with the SAUCONY Triumph 12, and so far they have been absolutely spot on.

Cheers for all the help and recommendations!

  • Is there a particular model of shoe I should be looking at getting for running on concrete, the road and grass?
