Want to extract audio from HDMI or convert optical to analogue audio

Hi Ozbargainers!

So I want to somehow get audio from my PS4 to my speakers which use my Logitech Z623 which uses a standard 3.5mm jack.

The setup is my PS4 is connected to my monitor through HDMI but I cannot get any audio out of the monitor. It has inbuilt speakers but I'd rather listen to no audio than that audacity. So What I'm currently doing is I'm plugging my headset (Astro A50) in the optical port of my PS4 and playing it alone. Now my girlfriend wants to watch me play (she likes watching lets plays so this is no different) and I have to find a way to get the audio out to my Logitech Z623. I'd also prefer that we both have audio.

Now I looked on eBay and bought a HDMI audio splitter but that was a terrible waste of money as it didn't work as intended (the screen flickered).

Now I'm not sure on what to do. Thinking about getting an optical audio splitter but that may loot the same results as a HDMI audio splitter.

NB. I've also tried plugging the 3.5mm jack into my controller and it works but just ruins the experience as the cord is far too short.

As a cheap work-around while you ponder other options, have you considered simply getting the equivalent of a 3.5 mm jack extension cord, to negate the main problem with the above solution that you have already proved actually works? Such cords exist, and they are relatively cheap.

    • I've never really thought about getting an extension cord for it, just been thinking about a better solution than plugging that cord into the bottom of the controller. Plus it actually does feel weird (to me) having a cord hanging from the bottom of the controller to the speaker rather than from the top of the controller. Kinda makes me feel like I'm holding the thing upside down.

Thanks for your suggestion though, will keep it in mind.

Audacious audio strikes again. Or maybe just a swypo. :)

    • This does sound like something that could work in theory but turns out different practically. I've already purchased a similar product and its just sitting there collecting dust. Also that would require another conversion on top of the split

      Thanks anyways!
