Stocktaking Work in Melbourne - Which Organisations?

Hi all!

I picked up from another forum post (and from searching on the internet) that theres good temp / casual work opportunities as a stocktaker - eg in the retail sector etc.

I understand that theres specific stocktaking businesses which provide stocktakes (as a third party provider) for organisations. Just wondering which stocktaking businesses you are aware of and which you recommend?

Also I notice that companies such as Officeworks appear to use a stocktaking service, and just wondering if you know which provider they use?

Many thanks!

  • I can tell you that David Jones doesn't use a stocktaking service; it's all done by their employees.

Source: Current DJs employee who's done her fair share of stocktake.

    • Ah ok. In regards to employment at DJ's, is it all through their Careers website? or is it worth coming in person and introducing my self with a resume? (From your first hand experience what do you think? :) )

      • Big companies will usually only hire via the website. If everything goes as planned then you get shortlisted, and hopefully a face to face interview.

I work in a retail store (franchise / chain) and all external applicants must apply online. Only once you have worked with the company, you can go through informal channels… usually by asking a manager who knows you well.

        • Thanks for the information and insights. It's very much appreciated! I guess it's a case of getting yourself in the door and maneuvering from there - should opportunities arise.

      • Website. Whether you ask an employee like me or a manager, we'll just tell you to have a look on the website for vacancies. I've had a few people ask to speak to my former manager about applying for a job; because he's a nice person he actually listens to them and all but ultimately tells them to apply online.

        • +1

oh ok. No worries. Thanks for the insights :)

  • Bunnings does stock take. Done it once. They will hire you directly as a 1 day casual.

  • Out of curiosity why stocktaking? For me the job wasn't that bad asides from being mind numbing, but what I hated was the irregular work so I'd never get enough money out of it. Better to apply for night fill or cashier duties at the supermarkets IMO
