Anyone used Camera Sky to buy a DSLR?

Evening all,

Im looking at buying a Nikon D5500 (Thanks to a deal on here with a Canon and someone recommending a Nikon, then it went down hill from there!).

Looking online, cheapest I can get is $799 after cashback which has to be bought by the end of the month.
Camera Sky are selling at $723, but these are imports from China.

Do I stay away from them and just pay the extra, or do I buy one and pay the extra $45 for 5 years warranty?

I cant seem to find anyone here in Aus selling at a sensible price. And he good guys didn't fall for the price match!

Thanks all,
Dan

  • Be warned that a lot of imports have a "you pay" return postage to OS for warranty. Sometimes they wont have a makers warranty but some arrangement with an independent repairer associated with the retailer.

  • Considering buying local includes GST, I think that 799 is a very 'sensible' price (would actually be cheaper than your grey import if you could claim back the GST by going overseas).

Personally, I'd happily pay the extra $76 for the piece of mind.

  • Yeah, it helps today that The Good Guys have a spend $900 and get $200 credit. Sadly though, they aren't enrolled in the $100 Nikon Cashback, otherwise would make it a steal.

Have decided to stay Australian :D

    • What's this?
I was looking at a Nikon d610 - $1529 at the good guys.
Can't find it on the website but I'm pretty sure they guy said there was a 100 cash back on it?

      • Some models to, the D5500 doesn't. :(

  • I appreciate this is an old discussion, but just wanted to post a warning. This is an online business that is happy to take your money, but don't expect to receive your goods or get a refund if there are any issues. They are not based in Australia, and seem to have a few standard email replies that they use as delaying tactics.

They seem to be posting false reviews to boost ratings, but are the subject of Fair Trading public warnings.

DO NOT USE - i'm $600 out of pocket and would like to save others the pain!
