Nissan Pathfinder ST -what's the fair price to offer! Recommended price is 39,990+ 495 for Metallic paint (I want it)

I think I have chosen the best ppl/forum to ask this question:-

How should I pay for Nissan Pathfinder ST Model, its recommended price is 39990 + on road costs, Car sales.com have the lowest price without Metallic paint as 36900 (driveway)..any suggestions?

P.S I have tried at couple of dealerships with 35 k…n it seems they were not keen to take my offer …..or may be I asked then too early in the month.

P.S Is there any website that has the factory price/dealer cost estimates for Australian cars.

Counting on you guys
Thanks in advance.

Someone on the whirlpool forums suggested as a rule of thumb, take 10% of the RRP , and take that away from the drive away price, and if you can get to that much off you have done amazingly well. So check the RRP ( you can find on most car reviews of the cars) and check the drive away price for your model (2wd, 4wd, hybrid etc) and then sit down and have a chat with the dealer, you'd aim for somewhere between the 10% off RRP (taken off the drive away not the RRP) and what the dealer initially offers you.
ie RRP is 36k and drive away is 40k, aim for 40-3.6 = 36.4k. Will probably be good deal if you get 37k.

Factor in trade ins, financing with them (get more off if you do those) or less if you don't.
Generally be honest with the sales guy. This is what I can afford can you do me a deal an make this work?

    Good luck

Go to other dealers in the state and even interstate. As said in the above comment start an offer with 10% less than RRP. With EOFF now will be a good time to buy and dealerships would want to get rid of their stock before 30th June. Coming weekend will be key if you really want to haggle hard. Good Luck.

  • So, if I am getting it right ——-RRP for Pathfinder ST is 40k , (-10)% =4 and the lowest driveway price on car sales is 37k and 37-4 =33 K. Wow! Guys am I missing something or probably I don't know how to really negotiate because I have tried many things n every time I had mentioned price close to 35 k….. Dealerships were like sorry we wont be able to do this…! n that is it.

P.S the dealership who had advertised driveway price of 37 k told me that as they have already the lowest driveway price there is only so much they can do about reducing it further…Don't know but for sure I hate dealing with car sales ppl! thanks a lot for your suggestions though!

I tried Dandenong Nissan in early this month, they calculated price from their book which was 42k. However, I showed them the price from carsale was only 38k. They said they just can do match price, with car instock (galaxy blue). Nissan Berick did better price which was $200 off. So, I asked the price for 35k and walked away, and they haven't called back. I am end up with Toyota Aurion.

Now, the price is 37k is pretty good, I think you can ask them thrown some things in: floor mat, reverse parking sensor…
