Subway Epping, NSW Not Honouring Birthday Voucher

I went to claim my activated birthday voucher for a free sub and drink on the 20th June (my birthday is on the 21st) but was told that the store did not accept birthday vouchers. My wife had the same problem last year but she was able to get them to honour the entitlement but they took a copy of her license. I have never had to do more than flash my ID to get any other deals.

I sent a complaint to Subway that day and they have not responded. Is it worth taking further action, like lodging a complaint with Fair Trading, or just let it go?

  • Have a good look in the T&Cs first for something saying 'participating stores only'. Also it looks like you're only allowed to redeem it on the day of your birthday

3.6 Membership of the SUBWAY® Eat Fresh Club may also entitle you to promotional offers on participating products at participating SUBWAY® restaurants.

      • In order for you to print the voucher, you have to select a store. And the voucher would therefore only be valid at THAT store.
Therefore, the Epping store had to be a "participating SUBWAY® restaurants" in order for you to select it.

Call Subway Australia. Their customer service staff are great and will handle your issue properly.

I have never got any kind of response from Subway by email.

Thanks for the help. Not a big deal but don't like being taken advantage of.

How are they taking advantage of you?

    • When you activated the promo did you select the store? Was it the Epping store? You're only allowed to redeem it at the store that you choose and only for 12 hours after activating (although it's valid 2 days before/after you bday)

but they took a copy of her license

Interesting that your wife was okay with handing over a copy of her licence to Subway of all places.

How many other OzBargainers would do that for a free Sub?

I wouldn't. Seems excessive, tbh. I'd show it to them at the very most, and even that would feel excessive (but understandable given they'd probably want proof of my D.O.B). But a copy of my name, home address, licence number, for their records.. etc.. lolno.

    They don't wanna give u a freeby
    Go to bunnings.
    Buy some timber
    Build a bridge
    Get over it

  • Did the same to me. Never been back after they made me feel crap on my birthday.
