Accounting. It's probably the most boring but most useful in getting a job.

Why ask then? I tend to agree it is the major that would result in the most potential jobs.

cr7 - "Hey guys, what major should I choose?"
ozhunter - "check out accounting man, its good"
        cr7 - "Nope, hate it!"

      • You will quickly find out that accounting is the basis for most things you do in commerce, irregardless of running a business, doing equities research, investments, financial planning, etc….anyone with a CA or CPA can move all the way up to a CFO and CEO level as they have the skills and tools to do capex budgeting, forecasting, corporate financial analysis, etc which is core to growing a business. Someone with a marketing background can make "marketing director" at most, which I often find it a bullshit name for a sales manager.

  • My opinion, is more and more accounting will become automated by software, so it might be smart not to go down that path,or at least do accounting information systems instead.

Can you do two? I would if possible to leave more of your options open.
I would pick business analytics, combined with HR or marketing, for quantitative skills mixed with people skills. Hopefully end up being able to interpret data, talk and write about it persuasively.

  • OK, well what are you interested in?

Knock out the ones you hate. Knock out the ones you suck at.
Then you'll be left with 2.
Pick your favourite. Major in it. Minor in the other.

  • I would suggest that you do what you are most interested in. There is no point majoring in an area that you hate and will drive you to tears having to work in for the next 40+ years of your life. If you are enjoy the area and do better at uni. If you are good at what you do, you will find a job in that area.

I think he has his own answer…not sure why he's posting though…

  • BIS, I myself am doing accounting at uni and it's kinda boring. Though as others say there's always a need for accountant.
