Alternatives to a butane gas stove

The sale of Portable Lunchbox Cookers, that use the disposable Cartridges, has been banned in NSW.
It is also recommended not to use them any more. The things that made the butane stoves so popular were:

Low cost – usually under $20
Simplicity – piezo ignition, disposable cartridges, no hassles with gas bottles
Compact – easy to throw a couple in the back of the 4WD or camper trailer
Ubiquity – you could buy them everywhere
Adjustability – for a cheap cooker they have a pretty good and adjustable flame,
especially for low heat applications

So now what are good alternatives for single or two burner portable stoves? LPG powered gas stove?

Any recommendation for 2-Burner portable Stove (LPG)?
Where to buy the LPG Gas Cylinder/Bottle?
How long does that LPG Gas Cylinder/Bottle lasts compare to the butane one?

Can you still buy the cartridges? if yes, there are a number of alternatives

Also, you can pay a fortune and get an MSR international stove that runs on pretty much any liquid such as petrol.

I think I've seen cartridges in Kmart and Bunnings since the ban.

    Lucky I have 3 of them. ;-)

Sadly, if used properly they are also very safe.
I'll keep using mine when required.
You can buy small single burners that use the same cans, they are for back pack camping, so very small. Not a very adequate replacement, though. Try ebay to see what they look like.

  • Lol! What isn't banned??

You should be able to order them on the "black market" lol AKA normal family camping stores and Kmart in more freedom-loving states. lol!

I use LPG stoves these days, and are insanely cheap to run, in my opinion. But they are no where near as portable.

I buy a 9kg bottle and lasts all year. (The bottle was from Gumtree, half full, for $15)

The burner is a cast iron wok burner with 3 rings. Similar to this - MUCH MORE HEAT than the butane-can rigs.

  • The cartridges also have other uses so I hope they keep seeling them at least.

  • What do you think about this one guys?

  • You can still buy the gas
cylinders as they are used for other non - banned things. I still have my Butane cooker and definitely won't be throwing it away. I bought a 12 pack of cylinders when the news broke just in case they banned them as well. If used correctly they are perfectly safe. Just another case of the nanny state.
