Classic game but I've actually never played!

      What, boring as hell?

The beer is cheaper though, so it's got that going for it.

I thought the 2-22 players was a typo but apparently not!

      Said in Benaud's voice.

  • Funny how the pictures on the covers of board games, even the new editions, are still as daggy as they were 'back in the day' ;)

    • Because the non-daggy ones would be out in the nets.

  • 80's Flashbacks right here.

  • 2 to 22 players. BUT wait, why 22 players?

      11 each side.

Fond memories playing this as a kid, we would bowl some wicked swinging balls by flicking the bowler's arm side to side as the ball was released. Not sure if this was strictly within the rules but it sure made it more fun! That was with the old version where the bowler had a long channel attached to his arm where the ball would roll down. The new one looks less fun with the bowler just flicking the ball.
I would recommend trying to track down one of the originals.

    • I agree. I had the channel bowler back in yesteryear and the new version looks to be a serious downgrade of the game - to simply have a 'chucker' - so many no balls, so little patience.

    • So much fun.

We would use one of the fence pieces as as extra long ramp down onto the bowler's arm ramp to get extra speed.

looks like this wouldn't hold up to the old batting trick of lifting the back up a little so the bat caught on the pitch, built up some tension then released at a million miles an hour.

Lost a lot of ball bearings to dad doing that.

    Worst game ever.

Hey, hang on a tic! Didn't the original version have a big ramp for bowling and not the 'flick action' this one has? How we've progressed eh?

  • I got one of these last year for my son and the quality is crap. Broke first time using it. They have changed the bowler and batter to the '80s version, so they are harder to use and fall apart. Took it back for a refund and got him the Xbox version.

ah, the memories!! We painted all of our figurines back in the 80's and dad secured the whole set to a solid base board. We used to get some wicked swing bowling with the original set with the bowlers ramp. Here's a photo I took recently when I got it out again for a laugh….

Ah and you had the scoreboard too. I think I got that for Christmas and my brother got the actual game.

  • wow haha used to LOVE this board game.

  • The reviews of this new version are very poor. If anyone finds any stock of the 80s version please let me know! Would love to get it for my nephew.

Man… memories. Does the mat still need folding to get in the box? That was the worst design ever. Balls would roll all over the place with the 'hills and troughs' in the ground.

Mum used to get so angry at me for leaving the iron on all the time. That felt got ironed more than my school shirts :)

22 players? One batting, one bowling, one person taking it way to seriously and changing fielding positions all the time and 19 drinking I'm guessing?

    • +2

21 drinking (everyone except the guy taking it way too seriously)

    • Who's the umpire then?

  • Good game, I'm pretty sure as a kid I had the mat stuck down to a piece of timber. Made it better.

  • Bugger, I was so going to get this for my 8yr old, but reading the reviews has certainly put me off.

My old man was too ghetto to get me the proper game so he picked up the ancient 1950s spin-the-wheel version at the op shop. I reckon concentration camp inmates had better entertainment options than that.

Oh man I still have that version at my parents place. I'm going to grab it next time I'm over there. Thanks for the nostalgia.
