What VPN Do You Use for Your Router/NAS?

Hi All,

I run a QNAP nas, which runs a torrent client and also SABnzbd to get all the linux distros I ever want. I am paranoid about the government/NSA finding out what linux distros I torrent, so I would like to connect my QNAP to a VPN.

I am wondering what VPN's you guys use, whether at the router or on the NAS. My NAS connects via PPTP or Open VPN, so other 'cliented' VPN's (which don't allow the former manual methods of connection) don't work.

What VPN do you subscribe to, how much did you pay for how long, and how do you find the speed on torrents?

  • https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/ $39.95US/Yr, Open VPN on a Synology Diskstation DS213j, no complaints.

    • Thanks, that's exactly what I'm after, but I'm just a tight arse and looking for a bargain too.

      • Yeah, VPN's can be hit and miss though, I did a bit of research before deciding on one.

      • I use PIA too and can vouch for them. My internet speed is around 8Mbps and I can easily download Ubuntu ISOs at 700Kb/sec using the Netherlands server. You have to remember there is a small overhead with VPNs, you will lose a tiny bit of speed.

        I paid $39.95US/Yr also.

        • Thanks bonez. I'm not in a rush for my ISO's anyway, so as long as it doesn't take days, I am happy. Thanks for that, still waiting to see if there are any other suggestions aside from PIA.

    • Cheers, Trying out for a month!

      • Is there a free month trial? or are you paying 6 USD to try?

        • the 6! Seems pretty decent so far!

      • Looks like there's a 2 year deal posted for PIA:

I'll bite on this one! Thanks all

        • damn it, haha! Knew it
