Melbourne to Central Europe in early August for ~$800, possible?

So far have found one flight with Garuda Indonesia for ~$750 to Amsterdam on the 4/5th of August

Trying to find something else similar (the closer to Frankfurt the better)

Frankfurt flights are unfortunately about $950-$1050

Adioso and SkyScanner are not helping as much as they usually help me :( Any ideas?

  • Found an Etihad "youth fare" via STA travel for $907 for MEL-FRA, so second best option so far

You might be able to do a MEL > Bangkok (somehow) then fly Norwegian air into Europe.

    Two separate tickets?

    05/08

MEL - KUL on AirAsia $230(+bags)
    09:35
    (MEL)
    15:55
    (KUL)
KUL - FRA $350 on Vietnam Airways
    KUL 19:10
    Kuala Lumpur
    16h 50m
    1 STOP
    06:00 +1 FRA

    = $580

EDIT: Just checked and there is a 20:00 departure from KUL so that leaves you 4 hours to be late and still check-in on time…

Also, sure you don't want a return?

  • I was going to blindly say no to Vietnam Airlines as they don't like bicycles (should have mentioned in first post). Luckily, I checked again, and to my surprise, they very (as in last 2 days) recently updated their baggage page, and now, in line with most other airlines, they treat properly packed bicycles as checked baggage. I'm printing it out in case they change it back haha. Yay!

    Thanks zappy_32!!!

No, can't do a return flight, trip is a bit open ended :)

You're welcome! Just remember to get some insurance that covers the missed connection just incase the AirAsia flight is delayed.

Also, you'll need to catch the train between terminals so keep that in mind once you arrive in KL. It's only a couple of minutes but it's more the walk and wait you have to think about.
