Came across this 4th of July deal. I don't know much about luxury watches, but it looks like a bargain. The site normally sells for US$992 but the code brings it down to US$598 + shipping (US$29.95).Amazon currently sells it for US$1079.(http://www.amazon.com/Rado-True-Automatic-Watch-R27351102/dp…)

Model no. R27351102 features a ceramic case and Plasma Treatment bracelet, Swiss mechanical automatic movement (self-winding), sapphire crystal, date display, and water resistance to 100 feet.

  • Interesting to see anyone else knows if this is a bargain or not.

Spotted this Australian domain site with it going for $AUD1529:
    http://www.bodying.com.au/rado-watches-r27351102/watches/822…

    • It's a bargain, Bodying is always overpriced.

    • US$629.95 comes to approx AU$840, so i'd say still a bargain.

  • Has anyone bought from this site before?

Wouldn't 'Pensioners R Us' sell this cheaper?

I need one that answers my calls and teaches me how to brush my teeth and vibrate when the phone in my pocket vibrates and tell me whether I slept last night and have an inbuilt speaker so I can hold it next to my ear, like a phone, and talk to people.

    • +3

I have one of those covers most of the functions you are looking for, the inbuilt speaker is a little loud… its called a wife. This is a lot cheaper.

      • A wife for under $630USD? Where can I get that?

  • +2

This is the watch I was lusting over a few years ago before I "cheaped" out & merely spent a few hundred on a Seiko kinetic. I had forgotten all about it thanks OP..

I would slightly prefer the accents to be white metal, but apart from that it's perfect. At this price it would have been mine; getting on for half the price I could find back then.

  • Swiss Mechanical Automatic (Self-Winding)

Does this mean it has a sweeping (not ticking) second hand?

    • Not entirely sure. Im guessing yes. I was gifted a similar watch (Automatic, self-winding) and it has smooth sweep motion and not a ticker.

    • +3

AFAIK none of them are actually smooth, they all tick to a certain extent.

Automatics in general have a certain rate of internal activity; usually 21,000 or 28,000 movements per hour. Divide by 360 to find movements per second (~6-8). Not sure about this specific watch off the top of my head, but it would be a mid range movement (& probably 28k).

      TLDR: Yes.

    • Where are you getting these codes from nifty? I'm hoping to find others for different RADO models.

    • Wow, a thousand dollar rubber band watch! Amazing.

  • Ah one can dream. I love the gunmetal colour of Rado watches. The particular band isn't my style though. I have a fake that will do me for now.

    Mine is like this: http://www.imwatcharoo.com/imitation-rado-jubile-tungsten-sa…

    • I had an discussion with my brother in law about buying fake luxury watches. He said the problem is usually the people who know about watches can easily tell the're fake and the people who don't know much about them wont even recognize them, so we loose either way.

      • As far as fakes go, it's pretty decent, but you can still easily tell. The 'diamonds' don't line up perfectly. I bought it at Bagus Watch in Bali, so instead of being a $5 Bali watch, it was a $40 Bali watch. I bought it because I like the style; I'm not trying to impress or fool anyone.

I've had a similar conversation with a friend that was heavily into designer handbags in her early twenties. I figured anyone who would see someone her age carrying a Prada, Oroton, D&G etc bag would assume it was fake, so why bother buying the real thing?

        • +2

You're meant to buy those for personal enjoyment and not to impress other people. ($5k Seiko anyone? lol)

As for the Rado watch in this deal, roughly AU$850 for an above mid level Swiss made automatic watch (ETA movement I'm guessing) would normally be considered good value. This is cheaper than some Tissot automatics which is normally considered a lesser brand.
