Samsung Fridge - Your Thoughts

Been looking for a fridge, I really like the looks built and pricing of the Samsung fridges but not so sure on quality. Just wondering if you own a Samsung fridge or have owned one previously can you please share your thoughts. There are few reviews available on web but I would like to know from people who own/ed SamSung fridge is everyone unhappy/happy

Even though it only comes with "Samsung offer a 10 year parts warranty on the Digital Inverter Compressor* that powers this refrigerator"

  • I have a Samsung 495 litre purchased 2001 and still performing well.

    • Singing well

Samsung whitegoods are pretty good, got a low end washing machine and a mid-end fridge, still working after 4 years.

With the exception of these washing machines

    • We are now all Samsung Products Out the back never a problem Oldest fridge 13 years
Newer Inverter model (made in Thailand) 4 years FANTASTIC and has cut power bills
Washing machine Front load 5 years superb micowaves (2) 6 year and 3 year brillient
Samsung TV and Phones great Now saving for high end Reverse cycle air conditioner
All bought from the good guys
Can not recomend them highly enough
      hope that helps

  • We have a Samsung fridge which is about 13 years old & is still going strong. We have never had any problems with it.

  • We have a samsung fridge also, same reason as you - they had the best design and use of space. Had it for maybe 4/5 years and still going strong.

  • Have a samsung fridge, 2 years now, still going strong

  • We purchased a Samsung SBS 600L in 2003 still going strong..touch wood 👉😃

  • I couldn't find those exact models on Product Review, but overall fridges were mixed. I have an LG, & the door is rusting after 5 years; the plastic shelves break easily.
Not to mention the parts are expensive to replace. :-(

I had been using a Samsung SR340MW for the last year and no complaints so far. If you do get one just becareful with the plastic parts inside the fridge. They looked fragile.

  • i was going to purchase one of the samsung 3050 series fridges a short while back but i got scared off by all the noise complaints about the samsung digital inverter compressors. i have no idea whether it is the norm.

  • 4 year Samsung washingmachine… still going strong.

My Samsung fridge has been great. Bought from Appliances Online who were also great to deal with. They deliver, install and move your old fridge too and they don't try to make you help them with the heavy lifting like some other delivery drivers.

    • Same, I have a new Samsung - looks pretty but can't vouch for it as I haven't owned them before.
I recommend using Appliances Online if they have a good price on the fridge you want. Especially if you don't want your old fridge as they can take it with them.

  • From Choice - fridge reliability - updated 16 June 2015:

'Samsung received the poorest after-sales service score, which is a concern as they're one of the least reliable brands, and 12% of owners reported a major problem with this brand.'

I will spare you the other % detail, but Samsung also came second-last in overall reliability (any problems of note) trailing Kelvinator, Westinghouse, Electrolux, Fisher & Paykel, Sharp, and LG - in that order.

If you like the layout and design of the fridges that you've looked at - that's fine. As regards reliability and service, you would appear to taking a greater risk of being ultimately pissed, vis the buyers of some other brands of whitegoods.

Here is one of my favourite Orbital tracks.
It will not help you choose a fridge.
    You're welcome.

  • SRL458ELS

Have the previous model SRL450ELS for about 18 months. wanted to by equivalent Electrolux, but the energy efficiency of the Samsung was better, and ~$400 cheaper.

Would buy again today, though hope I don't need to for another 8 years or more.

  • I have an SR341, could find no reviews at the time and it looked the best so that's what I bought. It got a very bad review in Choice, ranking the bottom in its size category for performance. Still it looks nice.

  • Have a 5 year old ~240 litre Samsung. No complaints from me. It does the job and my electricity bill is small.

  • Wish my galaxy phone can last as long as some of these people who have Samsung fridges.

  • About 10 years ago, parents bought a frost-free Samsung SRS583HDP on special from Harvey Norman without consulting me. A few years in it started having ice build up in the fridge (requiring manual defrosting every few months). It was a known issue with the model caused by a faulty thermal sensor. Unfortunately they didn't try to get it repaired at the time. Very annoyed at Samsung for releasing models with such problems.

I hope they've fixed those kinds of problems with their other models though and my experiences were an outlier

    • Had the same problem develop with my 2yo Samsung. rung customer service and they couldn't be more helpful. they sent a tech out who replaced a major fan? part and works wonderful now. Yes, it was a design fault, a small part that can fail, but they have corrected it now and will replace existing ones no problems.

  • A few months ago I bought the Westinghouse bottom mount fridge and had to return it as I found it too noisey - compressors far too loud. I then bought the Samsung bottom mount and its very quiet and I am happy with it. But I must point out, the quality of the Westinghouse and durability of the Westinghouse was superior in my opinion compared to the Samsung. Another good pro for the Westinghouse, it was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper too! Do I recommend the Samsung, yes for the look of the fridge on the outside and the quietness, but for durability, functionality and quality, I much prefer the Westinghouse.

  • I have a Samsung SR393, bought it a couple years ago because its dimensions were perfect for the fridge space in my apartment.

About 8 months in it started making some funny high pitched noise, I called Samsung direct (didn't bother going through TGG), they sent a subcontracted technician promptly to have a poke, he replaced the fan and I've had no problems since.

On the back of the hassle free warranty service for my fridge, I bought a second larger Samsung for a family member when her fridge gave way (can't remember model, cost about $1k bottom mount). She's had it for about 6 months and she's very happy with it so far.

  • I have owned a Samsung side by side for 7 years.
It has a frost problem in the fridge which means it ices up every 6-9 months and I have to break the ice off.
The salad crisper tray cover snapped off after two years.
I had to have something replaced in the refrigeration system which was known to be a common fault.
I took out an extended warranty so it hasn't cost any more.
Finally last year the water filter split and flooded the whole of the downstairs during the night.
Fortunately we had flood protection because the refurb cost $25,000.

On my way to work a few years ago I used to drive past a house where the owner had painted on his outside fence "Samsung fridge shit lemon" in foot-high letters.
The local council told him it was offensive so he painted over the 'shit' and left the rest. It was there for about 12 months.

  • Samsung side-by-side purchased in 2010.

    Very happy.

The hinge checks (the things that hold the door in place when open +90 deg, or close it when <90 degrees) failed on the fridge side within a couple of years. This was replaced under warranty with no issue.

One of the shelves is a folding shelf where the front half can slide in under the rear half, making the shelf half as deep, but allowing taller items on the shelf below. This started to form cracks in the clear plastic around the frame (opaque plastic) around the same time. We raised this as an issue, a new shelf was provided at the same time the hinges were fixed, at no cost.

We put the shelf in storage, and said we would replace it when the current one deteriorated further, I think the new one is still in storage, as the original did not deteriorate, and functions 100%, just aesthetics affected. Forgot about it entirely.

Hinges seemed to have held up longer this time too, no further issues to report.

  • Before you purchase any samsung product, it may be a good idea to check out their facebook page. It is full of complaints. It is wonderful if you have no problems with Samsung items but if you have any issues with your product … I wish you all the luck in the world because their customer service is absolutely terrible.

Here is a link to some more unhappy customers.

I am interested to buy this Samsung Bottom Mount Fridge SRL458ELS in few months time as well. Lower power consumption 330 vs 400++ or more for others around the same size, and cheaper as well to replace my 8 year old fisher and paykel. It looks like its a newer design using digital controls compare to the other samsung models which is using slider switch for termostat in the freezer.

Have you bought your fridge? Please update your feedback.

    • I am also interested in this fridge. Please give us an update when/if you buy it.

  • Best to read through some of these reviews before you settle on any samsung product.

I bought this SR466KLS about 2 months ago , awesome fridge but it started making really loud Chopper like noise after a week. Put a service request and got it resolved very quickly. Their after sale service is really good, it hasn't made the noise again ..

  • Samsung aside, is there any brands which are actually recommended? Every brand appears to have their complaints.
