Acer ES1-C1WD

Hi guys,

I bought this from JB Hifi in a deal a few weeks ago.

I'm having trouble getting it to recognise a bootable USB drive with Windows 8.1 on it.

I've replaced the HDD with an SSD and plugged in the USB to install Windows but no matter how I change the boot priority in the BIOS, no luck.

Any suggestions from other Acer owners?

Thanks in advance

  • This won't be that helpful but… I haven't gone through this process myself just yet, but will do some time in the next few weeks.

Just wanted to remind you though that you should use Windows 8.1 Bing version, as it will pick up the licence that came up with the device.

Btw, do you mind telling me what SSD you bought?

Have you tried plugging the USB drive in the USB 2.0 port (i.e the non blue one) and changing the BIOS mode to Legacy?

    • Thanks - I'll give it a try when I get home

I did try the USB 2.0 port but when I changed it to Legacy it warned me 8.1 was recommended UEFI so I left it as is.

      Fingers crossed :)

I had the same problem when I tried to replace it with a SSD. In the end, I gave up and created a Acer backup recovery usb disk from the original disk instead and restore the OS on my SSD.

  • So you go into the bios when you boot it up (press the f12 key or whatever) then there is a section of boot devices and it will have your hdd, dvd and usb displayed on it in a sequence of 1-5 or so, 1 i think is the primary boot device etc, you'll have to put the usb as 1 (primary boot device) and then save and exit bios and it should boot from your usb
