Billion 7700N Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem Router - good enough for Netflix on Dodo unlimited plan?

I need to buy a modem, and don't want to spend too much. I am considering this one:

Will this be sufficient for internet browsing and Netflix streaming?

    Yes.

  • It's got a pretty small NAT table (2500) so if you're into P2P and torrenting, I would highly recommend the TP LINK TD-W8970

It also has USB port and Gigabit LAN, it's a no brainer upgrade from 7700n. You can attach USB drives or a printer to the router for wireless printing.

It's about $79, which is a $27 dollars more but it's worth it.

    • Thanks for that. I don't do p2p or tormenting, and don't do any printing at home…

I've got the TD-W8970 and you can get it off ebay pretty cheaply. I'm happy with the modem and it can do a lot from those usb ports but I have to keep the modem ventilated well or it has issues.

  • Thanks guys.

I ended up getting TD-W8970 but for some reason it is not as fast as I expected it to me. I leave close to CBD and live on my own. I was on instagram last night and photos did not load instantly, they often tool 10 seconds to load.

Also, the previous tenant had her own, and very old modem and the signal was a lot better when I was outside of the house (3 m) then it is now with my new modem. I now have no signal what so ever when I step outside. Why could this be?

    I am on Dodo's adsl2+ unlimited plan..

How do I test the speed?

    • Speedtest.net

      Please post your modem stats.

      • Thanks for that.

        Download: 12.97
        Upload: 1.02
        Ping: 74

        • Your download seems to indicate that you have about more than half of your maximum ADSL capacity. So you're above average in terms of download speed compared to other users with Dodo ADSL2. That's not bad at all.

Your ping is a little high, well, compared to other ISP's anyway. Dodo isn't known to provide the best of ping times.

You can also view your modem stats. This is provided in the Status page in the modem's configuration page, usually accessible either through these gateway IP addresses:

          192.168.1.1
          or
          192.168.1.254

The stats show Signal to noise ratio and downlink / uplink speeds.

        • @scrimshaw:

Thank you so much for that!!!
