Compact Smartphone?

I find 4.5 inch smartphones too large for my pocket. Could anyone recommend 4 inch or smaller smartphone that is not over 300 dollars?

  • Really?

  • Any 4" smartphone will be less than $300 (even old iPhones are probably about that pricepoint) these days…
Not sure I can think of any that I'd recommend buying though!

For a "small" phone that is highly regarded, check out the Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. It'll cost you more than $300 though and has a 4.6" screen.

  • Sony use to make some nice mini smartphones, e.g. Xperia U, but Xperia U is discontinued. Apple iPhone 4 is another choice.

You're better bet is getting an iPhone 4 from secondhand market.

  • What are your primary uses for the phone (what you need from it)? That will be a very important question.

If just for basic use like calling, texting, whatsapp, browsing etc… then I would consider what microsoft has to offer. You won't be getting amazing specs but they will function and run fine. If you're looking for good camera capabilities the lower end microsoft phones probably won't suffice. Most manufacturers tend to be leaning towards 4.5" and up these days. ZTE and Huawei do have some offerings at 4" but I believe they would also be lower end.

As the others have said, possibly look for a second hand iPhone or one of the Sony compact or Samsung 'mini' phones if you're looking around the 300 price point.

    • I had a look at the Microsoft phones but the most recent ones do have larger screens. My phone is for the basic use so I do not need high specs. As you say most manufacturers at the moment tend to be leaning towards 4.5" so I may have to keep lugging this kind of phone. But a second hand iPhone may be a solution - I'll look to that.

      Thank you!

Would it be possible to know what phone you had or the general dimensions of it? The bezels have been getting smaller, so your 4.5 inch phone might be bigger than some of the phones that has bigger screens.

My wife's Galaxy S2 was identical in size to my Galaxy S even though the screen size increased from 4 to 4.3" (and there was still some bezel around the S2.
