Mobile Phone Unlocking Samsung E3309T

Dear OzBargainers,

I've recently bought the Samsung E3309T as part of the Netflix deal.

To my amazement, it's actually a decent phone. It's got an FM radio (that doesn't use data) and a microSD card slot. And the battery last >50hours playing music from earphones.

It's better than my current iPhone

Can anyone please tell me where to unlock this phone ? I've seen ads on eBay, but I don't really trust them enough to send them my phone.

Are there any phone repair stores in Sydney that might be able to unlock this phone ?

Thanks peeps !

UPDATE:

I've been doing some shopping around, and Asian mobile phone stores can unlock it for $35 - 50.

Try your luck with Optus. Two of mine worked and one of mine didn't (well it kinda did - should have cost $80 but they're asking for $25).

    • Pretty much the value of the phone :/

I bought an unlocked one from officeworks for around $35 a year ago

      +1 for your name :D

    • Thanks for your suggestion, I'm glad it worked for you. But according to the website, my phone isn't locked to Optus.

I'm sure it's locked though. Other sims will not work

As dodgy as some of the listings on ebay seem, I've done it a few times before and it's worked. You give them the IMEI number and they email back the unlock code.
Not saying they are all trustworthy though, but I haven't had a negative experience.

    • How much was it?

I think it was around $2.

        • Thanks

        • Any idea of ones that might do it for that price for this phone? I can only find one ad on eBay and it's looking for $14.99 :(

    • I take your word for it, if an ebay seller can unlock it online, I would be willing to give it a go. But for this particular model, the seller wants me to post the phone to them.

Guess they physically need the phone to unlock it

      • You shouldn't need to post the item, there are some that just require the IMEI number.

  • I unlocked mine last week through optus live chat for nothing. Stated that i was travelling overseas in 2 weeks and still wanted to use the phone. Gave my imei number and it was sent to me via email two days later

    • Thanks for your input Brad ! I will try it next time. My phone has been sent to an ebayer on Victoria to unlock. I think he uses 'Samsung Tool Pro' to unlock the phone

  • I'm surprised you guys haven't mentioned Bagman yet? where's the Bagman! he's the ultimate Unlocker!

    • Bagman lives here now. ;)
