Mobile Broadband While Internet Is down

I have no broadband for 10 days while Telstra fixes an issue. And I'm running out of my mobile broadband. Are there any very cheap dongles with included data - 4 to 8 gigs?

Or is the vodafone 4gig for 30 dollars, and then use the sun in a spare phone as a hotspot my best option?

Aus Post have Optus $30 credit SIM packs for $20 in their current cattledog.
Activate on the Prepaid Daily 'Plus' plan. That gives you 500MB per day for $2 in credit. If you use near to that every day, that will give you about 7GB of data from that $20 spend.

You can also avail yourself of the unlimited calls and text that are included in that, should you so wish, while the card is in your tether phone.

If you go over the 500MB 'limit' before 11.59pm on a given day enjoy/seek out better audio + remixes if you do, another $2 comes off your credit for another 500MB, for use before that day ends. Another $2 for an additional 500MB for use in that thar 24Hrs (max total 1.5GB).

Zero credit remaining in the account may see it closed after a month. Instead - at least maintain a smidge of credit. Can be rolled over and lasts for 6 months.
A useful backup, for the future, at the very least.

Get telstra to supply one for you.
They usually say that you have to buy the device from a telstra shop, they then reimburse your account for device and data.

    • Sorry! I was going to vote "+", but then my finger just clicked the wrong one "-"!! Wow, really sorry!!

Ahahaha, I'm assuming OP and Tas is on their phone because those are some funny auto corrects XD

Anyway, sorry for being a douche, the Vodafone $30 for 8GB of data and a free tablet might be a good deal for you… whether Telstra will reimburse you and if your area has decent enough reception for Vodafone is another issue though. For the free tablet you might have to go into store because according to the person who discovered it, they got it in store.

There is also the plan Tas mentioned but you might burn through the credit if you use a lot of data all at once, or only a little every day. regardless $20 should last you 10days if it was the latter of the two scenario I mentioned though.

  • You could use an Amaysim 5gb plan for half price for the first month (no lock in contract, just make sure you change to b-pay after you sign up). That would be $22.50 for 5gb (and just hotspot it with a smartphone), slightly cheaper than the optus 3gb/$14.

  • Prepaid, it's provided. At every weekend Sat-sun- Zero rated. Hotspot by phone, in any Voda 15.00 starter packs. Up to 96, of those 240Hours world grade & more powerful vs even cable #HFC_AU.
I am also led to believe Telstra opened a undisclosed, CreditMe2You item exploit, whereby each $1 (50c) internally tx to 'Data pass', adds .5GB to a base 3GB Telstra. (Always keep a cache T Starter + VHA $5-$15 packs ..if not already a legacy recharge)

So whether M-F, OR S-S there we have the most effective, current replacements. equating $1- to $0 per gbyte respectively.

  • I ended up getting the $30 for 8 gigs from vodafone, and put the SIM into an old Samsung S3 I had lying about, and use it's hotspot. All devices now online. I think per gig - that's a good deal.
