Dashcam for mum?

So I want to install a dashcam in my mum's car, but she isn't great with technology. What is a nice, reliable and easy to use dashcam for her?

  • any really, they're mostly set and forget (providing you set it up ;P)

  • Make sure you get one that starts recording automatically once the car turns on and use a class 10 memory card for a smoother video. I bought a full hd dash cam last year on ebay for about 30 dollars on ebay. Don't buy the 15 buck ones, it's really bad.

The G1W series are on gearbest for roughly $35~45 USD, depending on which model you get. I've recently purchased the G1W-C (black version) for my mum and I'm waiting for shipping.

There are three variations of this device, the original (cheapest) has a lithium battery, and the more expensive variants run on a capacitor instead, which removes the risk of batteries exploding if exposed to hot weather.

    • Question to the ones who have the capacitor version, would you put motion detection on? I had it on all the time so camera rolls as the car moves, However, find it hard to adjust mode or play back video as first camera must be plugged in and secondly video is not recording (ie no motion). No such issue found with battery version.

If you want the camera to always record when your car is moving, then motion detection should be OFF.

Motion detection ON means that it will stop recording if your car is not moving "for example at a traffic light".
