Laptop with Best Battery Life?

My dinosaur of a laptop is about to die and was wondering which laptops have the best battery life? I know macs are great, however i assume there are cheaper alternatives.

There are always cheaper alternatives to Apple Macbooks…

The battery life of a laptop is highly dependant on it's configuration, screen size, resolution and of course, the capacity of it's battery.

    E.g.
A cheap-arse $500 11" convertible tab with an Intel Atom z3735f could last for 8~10 hours on single battery while an expensive $1200 Core i7 laptop with 860m would probably last around 5 hours max.

You could go out and buy a device with only the battery life in mind but it may not have the specifications to suit your usage…. best to work out what processor / display size you need first and work from there.
Some business machines like Dell Latitudes usually have an option of an extended slice battery at the expense of extra bulk.

    • Scrimshaws advice goes with any laptop.

      1. Decide Mac or PC (if that is important)
      2. Decide specs of what you need
      3. Look for brands that give the best tradeoff of specs vs battery life
      4. Then assess what trade offs you get for the price you want to pay

      as Scrimshaw says

You could go out and buy a device with only the battery life in mind but it may not have the specifications to suit your usage

This is really the basis of any advice you will receive. Alternatively it's the old adage, namely, - How long is a piece of string?

  • You are not going to get better real world battery life than a Mac. Get a 13 inch Macbook Air, they are cheap and have something like 12 hours of battery life.

    • One of the laptops there, asus zenbook ux305 can be had for around ~AUD1000 delivered from bhphotovideo.
