  • not today only but it ends today, correct.
this eco drive technology with never change battery, it is true?

    • Rechargeable battery, is supposed to last 25 years iirc.

      • Mine lasted 10 before it stopped holding charge. I'm sure the newer ones are better though…

    • Yes, the face is a solar panel. If the watch isn't written for some time and the battery gets low the hands will stop moving to save power.

The titanium is more scratch resistant than the usual stainless steel, but I'm not sure by how much.

If you don't care about titanium or the all metal look, this one might be good for much less - http://www.starbuy.com.au/citizen-eco-drive-bm8470-11e

      • +1

It is also significantly lighter than stainless steel case.

      • I hear the opposite, titanium is a scratch magnet.

Plus the batteries in these Eco watches do wear out. If they only last 10 years as stated above then that is pretty poor as normal watches are available with 10 year batteries for much cheaper.

        • -1

Correct. Titanium is easier to scratch.

        • @tendollar:

Didn't know titanium was softer but mine is titanium and after about five years of all sorts of treatment doesn't have any significant scratches.

The crown did stop sealing/screwing in properly - perhaps because the metal is softer? Unfortunately I bought it from Amazon UK so couldn't get it fixed under warranty here. Can't wear it in the water since that issue but otherwise extremely happy with mine.

          @rygle:
It is a common misconception that titanium is harder than steel.
The hardness of titanium is lower than some steels, so it scratches easier than most steel. Coatings can increase the hardness of titanium as well. G5 titanium has a 35 Rockwell C (Rc) hardness. Steels have a range of hardness all the way up to 55 Rc for hardened carbon steels to 65 Rc for tool steels and even higher for special steels used for cutlery.

Titanium is still pretty hard, though. It is an excellent watch material and it is a good compromise if you want a lighter material.

    • I agree in that my Pebble watch is what started me wearing a watch again, frankly. This is a good price for a titanium watch (if you want that - nice and light but the metal is softer than stainless steel so you need to be a little more careful to avoid scratches) that also in theory never needs a battery change, and if you liked the style. If I wanted a 'dumb' watch I'd probably be looking at a dress watch in which case something like http://www.starbuy.com.au/seiko-kinetic-srn055p or http://www.starbuy.com.au/seiko-leather-strap-sgeh17p would be more attractive to me….

    • How dare you insult the watch!

  • +13

I have this watch with a slightly different face and I can attest that it is a fantastic watch at a fantastic price.

Much lighter than you would expect and the Sapphire Glass is very hard to scratch compared to normal glass or even gorilla glass. The titanium does mark easier than stainless steel, but it's a matt like finish so doesn't show badly

Yes it's no smartwatch, but then your smartwatch will be out of date within 12 months, need charging every night and there's no way a digital watch face will even look as elegant as the real thing. I'm not knocking smartwatches, I have both a pebble and am currently trying the sony smartwatch 3, but comparing this watch to smartwatches for looks is apples and oranges.

    • -3

The main difference is that a smart watch is about function, because most are damn ugly. A regular watch is more a fashion accessory then a function.

    • You obviously dont own a pebble cos my battery life gets me 7-8 days

      • +1

Yes I do own a pebble, and it gets about 4-5 days with regular use. Most smartwatches don't last more than a day. The Sony definitively does not. I'm not knocking the pebble, but a piece of art, the pebble is not. The steal is better, but still not anything like a well crafted analogue watch. One is jewelry the other is a utility. A damn fine utility, but very utilitarian in it's looks.

  • No free shipping?

  • Got one it's a great looking watch. Great value and great specs. Are these other people for real rather a smart watch over something that looks like this or don't you people have a smart phone?.
Not so sure my wife likes this Ozbargain site.

are these other people for real rather a smart watch over something that looks like this or don't you people have a smart phone?.

Yeah, have a phone so never had the need for a watch. I have a Tag that has been in the draw for 6 years, last time it was out was for a funeral and a G Shock that only gets used when I go hiking, kayaking etc.

As another poster stated, watches aren't there for telling the time, they're a fashion accessory, albeit I am not quite sure what fashion statement people are trying to make with a $180 Citizen watch ?

      • -1

So you pull the bling out for Funerals? And youre wondering about the statement a $180 Citizen watch makes?

  • -7

Reminds me that before everyone have a smart phone, there are still people saying my aging Motorola phone can last for days without charging, why would I buy a smart phone………. Technology moves on since….

Good watch! I have been waiting for a Titanium Eco-Drive as a present for my Dad on Father's day. Yeah, I know it is a bit early for Father's Day present, but I always like to think ahead …

    • -5

Great for Dad and granddad generation. Keep the moto 360 for yourself. You can see how many 'great' watches got deeply discounted at Amazon. Then you know the future trend.

    • Hi. Could you please send me a PM and I will get your name taken off the list. All the e mails do have an unsubscribe button at the bottom as well. I will need the e mail address from you. Thanks

  • I bought one last time on sale. It's fatter than I would have thought, but I am happy with it.

  • i dont know anything about watches, how does this one rank compared to other watches?

Citizen is a good brand. You can buy a lot cheaper brands/models but it depends what you want, like anything you buy.
I personally like the dive models & this one is a great value at around $85.00 del -

It has a bit of a following here - http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/casio-amw320-best-value-out…
Beware, once you start looking you will start buying.

Citizen is a very good brand, with a long history. They were first and still the best with the Eco-drive. Seiko also have a version but it doesn't work quite as well.

They also have a signature series which is more expensive and supposedly higher quality, but I have not had a single problem with my citizen.

I am not a watch expert, but I do have more than a passing knowledge of them, and, irrationally as you can only wear one, a collection. Of all the expensive watches I have, this is actually my favorite and the most wearable every day.

2 cautions. 1st Titanium is nice to wear as it is so much lighter, but it does mark as per my above comment. It's not bad, but it's not invunerable.

2nd If you are going take links out of the band, they should only go ONE WAY! There is an arrow on the band which shows which way. If you push it out the other end the hole will enlarge and the pin will not stay in as it is no longer tight!

If anyone is truly interested, I'll post a photo of mine showing 2.5 years of wear.

      • i am truly interested.

      • I am also truly interested

      • I am interested too.

      • I am jumping on the interested bandwagon

      • interested too…

The clasp cops it the worst, but most of the marks would be gone with 5 minutes of polishing. The bezel does have two unknown gouges which would not polish out. Not sure how I got them, but I do wear this watch all the time and I don't treat it with kid gloves, so who knows, I've had it for 2.5 years so use that as a guide.

    • meh. i've got a steel watch in similar condition as well. nothing out of the ordinary.

  • +1

I have been wearing a Titanium Eco Drive for 4-5 years now and never had a problem with it.
    - No need to replace the battery as it recharges itself. The black watch face is a solar panel.
    - Titanium and Saphire Glass is actually more scratch resistant than Steel and quartz. I know because I have scratched/cracked my Lorus and Fossil watches.
    - I am lucky that my watch only skips a second every week. I have read that some expensive watches($1k) skips up to 10 seconds a day!
    - Only weights 90g. I weight it at Woolies self checkout. lolz!

No, I am not a Citizen Watch Rep. I am just impressed by their Titanium Eco Drive range.

  • Expired?

  • Hi rep,

Then sold out and then back in stock. Isn't this too obvious. What do we have next? Zirconium watches ?

  • Hi Rep,

Interested in this watch "Seiko Perpetual Calendar SNP077P".
Can you do any better? Have bought quite a few watches from you.
