ABOUT -

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering on the island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger clan. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own tightly knit but dysfunctional family.

He employs disgraced financial journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

But the Vangers are a secretive clan, and Blomkvist and Salander are about to find out just how far they are prepared to go to protect themselves.

Despite that it shows as $0.00, the play store won't let me 'buy' it without adding a payment method. Is there a trick that I'm missing?

Thanks, but no. Google seems to verify credit card numbers on the spot. Tried a bunch of options with google and via paypal. Nada! Thanks for trying though!

Ah, I've solved my problem! Turns out the same book is free on the Amazon store as
        well:

        Au: http://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00480O9L4/
        US: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00480O9L4/

OP, maybe you'd like to update the deal?

US not free for me. It also says that title is currently not available for purchase.
          AU worked. Thanks

Or get a virtual US credit card from EntroPay.com

Useful for when you need to use a USA credit card (for US Netflix), or if you have to pay using credit card and don't 100% trust the vendor (like AliExpress) you can load the exact amount you need then immediately spend it.

  • To get this free, I think you need to be a girl with a dragon tattoo.

This is a very good book, but note that it's very graphic with rape and shit.

      Ta, appreciate the heads up.

  • How do ozbargainers find reading a whole book on a tablet screen versus a kindle?

    • +2

I don't mind it. usually read it at night dim screen on phone not too bad. never used a kindle tho

    • +2

I prefer an ipad. I have a little Kobo reader but I never got into it and very very rarely use it. I read regularly on ipad, never finished a single book on an ereader. ereader should probably be better in principle, but I find the tiny screens - even on the 'big' ones - to be a bit odd.

    • +4

Your question should be how many ozbargainers actually finish a whole book on a tablet/Kindle. None. With so many free stuff, we are struggling to keep up with the bargains.

      • I've read 65 books on my Kindle this year.

    • +1

Kindle is better for longer reads and outside in the sun, also its like a book just pick up flip the cover and you are back where you last finished reading. Phone is ok when out and bout for short reads.

    • +1

I prefer reading on my tablet, but I mostly read at night. For day time reading, the Kindle is obviously the better choice.

    • I never read books on my tablet, I only ever read on my ereader. Much easier on my eyes also lighter and I don have to worry about running out of battery.

    • I have a Galaxy Tab S…

It's got the lowest brightness (as well as one of the highest brightness) among all tablets, so you don't hurt your eyes in the middle of the night. THis was one of the reasons why I got this.

Also it's very high resolution (no pixelation), so it's nice.

    • I guess it depends on the quality of your tablet. I have a SGP511, resolution is excellent and I dim the screen a small amount. I could probably get ten hours reading on it.

  • Such a great series, if you watched the mediocre movies please don't ignore the books, these are far superior.

  • +1

    Excellent series. Read it.

    • Yep this got me into reading novels.

THen I made the mistake of attempting the Hobbit…

      • Yeah nah. Don't read that.

        • yep. Shit book, excuse my language but you don't need 3 pages to describe a rock.

          Just watch the damn movie.

        • @inose: Hehe, welcome to the world of Tolkien. His descriptive prose is, uh, 'bloated' at best (I still enjoy his work, though).

  • Excellent, thank you!

  • Thanks… Another kindle book

  • Doesn't look like its free in Amazon US site anymore..

This title is not currently available for purchase

    • Are you on the mobile site? Same problem at the Au store mobile site. Go to the full site in your browser and search for the book.

    • I got it on the US site, but I'm using my desktop.

      • I was not using the mobile site, same as you (I believe) but got that msg..

  • Not available on the Au Amazon mobile site. Go to the full site.

  • Good series. reading the third at the moment

  • This is probably the best of the three. I'm on the second one right now, and it's good but a little boring in parts and a little ridiculous. The movies are really good too, at least the original Swedish ones. I haven't seen the Hollywood remake, but I hear it's good too.
