Please Help Me Setup D-Link Router with NetGear CG3000 Modem with Optus

Hi all I need some help and know there a lots of you on ozbargain that are really technically gifted ;-) please help me.

I now have a new modem, the Netgear Cg3000 (after my optus CIsco carked it) and I also have a DLINK cloud router AC 1750 (DIR 865L)

I need steps to connect the router to the netgear modem so that I get optus internet working through it — I have tried a few times now and although I can connect via my wifi to the DLINK each time, its not giving me any internet???

The reason I a trying to set this up is to be able to alter DNS in the DLINK once its up and running for my Amazon Fire TV that shows Prime, Hulu, Netflix and HBO Go etc

I know it should be simple, but I just cannot think straight anymore! I will keep trying but would really really appreciate if someone that knows what I am talking about can simplify it for me.

TIA

Holy crap, first of all I want to say I have the exact same CG3000 and bought a DLINK cloud router for the DNS alteration. Coincidence huh? :-)

Mine had the exact same issue, but I updated the firmware and did a factory reset and it worked like a charm.

Try again and if not, I'll troubleshoot it with you.

You are awesome, I will try this in the morning and come back and let you know what happens, thanks for replying feeling very hopeful now, cheers!

  • the Cg3000 isn't just a modem, it is a router as well. While this wouldn't explain why it wasnt working, you should look into enabling "full bridge mode". This basically turns off all the routing functions on the modem/router and spits out the "raw" internet on lan port 1. Then let your "fancy" router do all the nat and firewall stuff.

unless of course the reason you have second router is so you can have a "US" network and a "AUS" network.

Id consider resetting everything. Both cable modem and and your d-link router likely have a little hole where you're meant to stick a paperclip for 10 seconds to do factory reset.

@deanylev you are a legend! Thank you so much it worked! All that was required was to download the firmware upgrade at the dlink site (http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-865L) then connect back to DIR upload the file. It auto upgrades then shuts down, I reset it and turn it back on, connect and what do you know its now connected to the internet! and DNS now done so I can once again enjoy my Amazon Fire.
    Cannot thank you enough.
    cheers!
