3D2N Gold Coast - drivable?

Hi all

Is it advisable to rent a car ($200 for a 3D2N trip - shared between gf/myself) or to take GC Shuttle ($79/person)? 21yo, got my licence last year and been driving frequently in Melbourne. First time driving outside my state..

We stay at Watermark hotel and plan to go to SeaWorld (last day) & Movie World (Day 2) and Day 1 would probably be some relaxing strolling on the beach/exploring.

Also thinking between Watermark or QT (~$70 price diff)

Would also be very thankful for any itinerary/food suggestion! (:

  • It's a 3D2N trip so don't drive there yourself. You don't have the time to do small town stop bys to really enjoy driving there yourself.

I think he actually means renting a car on the GC itself, I thought this too.

Kidaway - driving on the Gold Coast is a lot more relaxing than Melbourne - as long as you're sensible you shouldn't have any issues. It's a lot better way to get around too - parking is often cheap or free in the non-touristy areas. If you're up for some good food Mike's Kitchen is the best ribs / steak in the state.

      • Ahh that makes sense. Thanks for saving me from embarrassment as I wasn't alone :)

From my previous 4D3N trip to the GC visiting 3 of the Worlds I found the shuttle bus provided were quite efficient. GC airport to our villa, shuttle bus near the villa to the Worlds and back and finally a shuttle bus from the villa to GC airport. Taking the shuttle bus into the GC CBD for a night out took the longest but it wasn't bad at all. I wouldn't want to rent a car when the shuttle bus could take you to where you want to go.

  • Are you still on your P licence? I don't think you can rent a car on P plate.

  • Don't catch the GC Shuttle (why?) there is public transport (Surfside, Translink) servicing the airport and theme parks/surfers paradise and it would probably work out cheaper. I went to the GC a couple years ago; caught public busses (Airport -> Surfers, Surfers/Theme Parks, Surfers -> Airport), why pay $79 for a tourist bus when you can pay $3 for a normal one… Apparently there's a tram now too? :)

there is a tram now. stupid locals keep hitting the tram stops.
