Property Conveyancer/ Solicitor

Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation on a conveyancer/solicitor to use around the Sydney CBD/Bankstown area. I am a first home buyer, so haven't had to do this until now.

What fees I am looking to pay? I would really appreciate the Ozbargain community's feedback.

  • I'd say around $1400 per transaction. I used to use a guy at Ramsgate, which is a bit far away.

  • im in Vic cost me $800 in dec last year.
    From start to settlement

  • Expect to pay around $1000-1200 after negotiations. I have bad experience with Slaytor&Gordon's.

  • I am in VIC. I am in the same stage as yours. I have contacted 3 conveyancers about fee. One told me $660 as I was recommended by someone. The rest of the two conveyancers matched the price.
So, even if they ask you a specific amount, tell them that XYZ is offering the same service for $ABC. I am sure they will match the price.

The only thing you must ask that this is fixed price. Sometimes, they put extra charges on top of the agreed price.

  • Solicitors will generally charge more than Conveyancers. Stick with a conveyancer as they specialise in the work and provide a great service.

  • I thought the job of a conveyancer was to sort out all money oweing on a property. I bought a house 2 months ago, and just received a $400 water bill including $200 unpaid water bill from 2014. Not Happy Jan. The letter attached from Melbourne water says it is my responsibility to pay it, even though I didn't own the property when the bill was run up.

Used them on my recent property purchase. They are actually solicitors rather than conveyancers. I have used conveyancers in the past and never again - lets just say that when shit hits the fan you wished you had paid that bit extra for someone who knows property law inside out.

Fees are reasonable and service is good. My property was purchased in Parramatta and although they are based in Liverpool it was no issues. Did it all via email correspondence and over the phone with no hassles at all.

Paid $1,100 so prices are very reasonable.
