  • There's one on the on the front page of the Harvey Norman Catalogue for $494:

AMD Sempron 2.1G Hz, 2GB RAM, 160GBHDD, DVD burner, 15 .6"screen, Windows Vista Home Premium. VW516PA.

Probably works fine, but with a $500 budget I'm not sure if you can find anything "good". If you keep an eye on the Deals page something should come up.

Have you used netbooks before? I'm only asking because I used the old 7" Eee briefly and it was terrible with the screen the size of two playing cards but the 10.1" and 11.6" models are a different story.

    • thanks mate…i think we use the same EeePC 701, i've been really angry sometime since the speed of this netbook is fxxking slow..forgive my rudeness…

so i want a new laptop, at least, will give me a better feeling…

thanks for your deal mate:) and i'll keep looking

      • Have to agree that the 701 was slow, I even put in 2GB RAM and it was still just as laggy running XP. Apparently you can make the Celeron run at normal capacity which helps a bit (i.e. 900Mhz rather than 600Mhz), but it compromises battery life and causes it to heat up.

Though I mostly use a desktop, I've now got the 10.1" Asus 1002H which goes great in my experience. 5hr Li-Polymer battery, LED screen, chicklet keyboard, wifi N, webcam, bluetooth, Atom N280, seems to boot in 10 secs flat… and it was under $500.

        • i sold my desktop three month ago, since the fans were pretty noisy, and i needed to clean them very often until i sold it..

lol, i think EPC1002 must be much better.

what i need is a laptop, which is quiet, has a normal size screen, speed ok.. wish can play normal games..e.g. CS :)

i loved IBM thinkpad before, but now i feel less needs to put bulks of cash for a really quality laptop..maybe due to the fast retiring of most electronics..
          XD

          • @jva: If you have to clean the fans on the pc then i would be very carefull about laptops ie its a lot more difficult to actually clean them out.

Most people dont realise that pets can be a computers worst friend especially laptops and cats ;)
