I would look at the Targus brand ones. They usually have lots of good size pockets and are comfortable to wear. I think it is important to try in a store before buying to make sure it is comfortable; Uni usually involves a bit of walking around campus. Best of luck with the course.
hiking daypack and a sleeve
i don't know if you want a specialised laptop bag or just a regular bag with a sleeve. Ive got a rip curl bag very similar to the one that Jpatrick linked and it gets the job done. it just has a simple sleeve to hold the computer in place and help it to not get scratched.
Most of the surf brands have bags like this with a laptop sleeve and they look pretty good too.

I had this bag since the start of uni and it's still in good shape. I did an engineering/compsci course so I had to carry my laptop and some electrical components around most of the time. On top of that, I also had my notebooks and occasionally a textbook.
The specs say it fits most 15 inch laptops but I easily fit my 15.6 inch laptop in it. I highly recommend this bag.
