USB Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast

I've been looking around for a (relatively) cheap USB ethernet adapter for the Chromecast, without much success

The ones I've found that have been verified to work with the Chromecast are at least $30 + postage…

If anyone knows of a cheaper solution please let me know — it would be much appreciated!

  • There is now an official one although not available in Australia just yet.

  • have a look at this https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2418159

USB ethernet $6 to $10 on ebay from Australian sellers. USB OTG "Y" cable around $5.

    • Thanks - though judging from the posts that it's a case of YMMV …

      • the only trick is to be absolutely, positively certain the USB Ethernet dongle uses the chipset specified in the whirlpool thread. I paid $9 from a local ebay seller who guaranteed it was the needed chipset. Plugging the dongle into a linux box will let you interogate the chipset and get your money back if it's wrong.

$14 compared to $30 + delivery is a bargain to me.

Sure, but $14 for a non-compatible adapter is $14 wasted.

If you get a compliant one for $30, then that is $30 better spent relatively speaking

          I must have misunderstood you.

  • This one here will work .. $9 delivered from Melbourne.
