Cheapest Method to Grab a MacBook Pro Retina before Christmas (with TRS and/or Student Discount) ?

My mother is a very very very very very stingy person when it comes to design and my mother likes Macbook designs.

I know that there are cheaper options out there (in terms of performance) and I know that VAIO laptops are also an option (for design), but my mother is really really hard to please; my dad and I have concluded that it's better for us to just grab a Macbook Pro Retina than to risk my mother not liking the present.

I am looking for a Retina model because my mother has a clothing shop and she tend to look at online stores (so the quality of the screen is one of the major things I need to look at). She uses laptops for a long time as well, so I'd rather have something that's decently specced. That's pretty much why I am not looking at the new Macbook model. If they release a Macbook Air refresh with Retina display, I might consider that option… Is there any rumours on Macbook Air with Retina display?

So what would be the cheapest option for me, I think I've missed the EOFY sales so should I wait till Black Friday ish time? Should I buy the laptop around the Christmas time so that I could take advantage of TRS?

  • i know for a fact that Dicksmith do the Christmas sales of 15% off macbooks
if you can combine it with 10% gift cards you will be sweet
this combination is better than the student discount but does require some coordination and waiting

    • Hmmm, that sounds like a reasonable idea. :)
      Thank you.

  • Apple Online Store has a certified refurbished section with cheaper prices. Considering the usage you could even get an older model if it's much cheaper

    • I was thinking about looking into the refurished section. I should definitely do that. Do they come in different packaging? It's just that I am thinking of giving it as a present.

      Thanks :)

      • I personally haven't ordered a refurbished item before but am possibly looking at doing so. Perhaps call an Apple Store and ask?
But from a quick search it seems like it comes in different plain package

        • Hmmm, I might have to look into other options as well (or I can do what I usually do with tech presents for my parents, unwrap them and set them up first).

          Thanks :)
