Free consoles from EB Games for 14 days?

On EB Games Australia's facebook page someone asked whether they could return a preowned Nintendo DS lite console if he/she didn't like it and Eb responded

We have a 14-day return on all preowned items should you decide that they aren't for you. So, as long as the console is within 14 days of purchase and remains in the same condition it was purchased in (no damages since purchasing), you can pop into store with the console and proof of purchase for a refund. -

"all preowned items"
Games, controllers etc

Free preowned video game console of your chose from Eb for free for 14 days?

Got a kids party?
Need another ds to trade pokemon?
Haven't decided whether to buy a console or not?

They will refuse you service if you are found to have abused this service….

    • Not that I would do it. But if it was done once I don't think anything would occur.

      • I just meant more than a few times (aka ozbargaining)

        • I used to borrow games and return them. I would do this very often and I didn't get any hassle.
Though it will probably happen, and in the worst case scenario they refuse to refund it and you can go to another store.
Of course we need to be fair and not abuse this for morality sake.

  • Nice.

And people wonder why Retail businesses are going broke.

    • +10

EB rips off enough money from their customers that I highly doubt doing this would make them go broke. Have you seen their prices??

And people complain when stores replace generous return policies with the bare minimum required by law.

      • +2

EB going broke wouldnt be the worst thing in the world…

  • You still need the initial capital to purchase the console so its not really a free console for 14 days

  • money today is worth more than in the future

      $98 for a pre-owned xbox 360.

Put it in a high interest account (UBank 2.31%) for 14 days, subtract inflation (3%/annum), tax (?). After 14 days, the $98 has now changed to $97? That is weird :D

Yep, great idea (not,) and when they no longer off return as an option to genuine purchasers, I'm sure you'll be among the first to b*tch about it.

indeed, then we can wait for the "EB scammed me" topics!

  • anyway whos wants a 2nd hand console when past gen units are so cheap brand new

  • It's bizarro that they would offer this policy on games… when I used to buy the odd game, I'd usually finish it in under a week.

    Douche move imo.

  • EB 2nd hand games are hella cheaper than JB in my experience.
