OnePlus Two - General Discussions and Reservation List

Any Ozbargainers interested in or looking to purchase a OnePlus 2 once it's launched?

I've had the onePlus One previously but had issues with random reboots and in-car Bluetooth streaming issues. Hope to give the onePlus Two a chance and see if these issues are addressed.

Current concern I have is the band compatibility with 4G networks in Australia (particularly Optus and Telstra) with the OnePlus 2. During an AMA, the OnePlus team confirmed the following bands for US and EU models:
US GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/4/5/8 FDD-LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/7/8/12/17
Europe GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900MHz WCDMA: Bands: 1/2/5/8 FDD-LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20

OnePlus Keynote

Also, the OnePlus Two launch app is available to view the upcoming keynote, particularly in VR if you have Google Cardboard available https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.oneplus.tw…

The keynote will be held on Monday, 27 July 2015 at 7:00:00 PM PST which translates to Tuesday, 28 July 2015 at 12:00:00 Noon AEST (Melbourne for me).

Reservation List

OnePlus have just also launched the Reservation List for the onePlus Two.

Now instead of joining competitions, buying invites from eBay or waiting for friends to receive invites to share; we can simply enter leave an email address and they will work through the reservation list depending on stock availability. Similar to onePlus sending invites to their forum members based on the User ID number.

When you receive an invite, it must be redeemed within 24 hours before it expires and is reissued to another person on the waiting list.

With the OnePlus one, it took four months since launch to receive an invite direct from OnePlus…hopefully this changes for the OnePlus Two.

  • So i got in a bit late on the invites but even if i get an invite will i be able to buy one without a freight forwarder>?

  • given your concerns with version 1, why are you even considering version 2? These things cost a fair bit and if V1 was crap then V2 will be same?

    • -2

What makes you say that it's "crap"

      • -1

what? I said "if it was crap" The OP clearly states that he had issues with version 1….. Perhaps re read OP's post and then remove the neg (if that was you who gave to me). I did not say it is crap.

  • I'd prefer it to have matched I phones this year's 128 GB Flash memory cap, than to fall into LG's line #battery sapping microscopic QHDisplay level pixeks. Or perhaps, they have little choice in that fashion (500PPI+).

They absolve for this partly by a dual sim phone albeit one at heightened Price. Time will tell if that stay sufficiently below LG4 price over time which had been +1' sweetest selling point. Vs Zenphone 2- plainer for no gimmicks, but also, neither could run Dual UMTS 850(B5:Telstra)+LTE 850(B5:Voda)- people's choice for who mostly move around metro here.

But will x2 Sim be another 2G4G-type bomb. And what region(s)? It promises to be a revealing phablet show in any event.

  • I don't get this invitation crap. it seems pointless and very "oooohhhhh , wow!!" i.e. lame.

just sell the f%$king phones and be done with it.

certainly, from a marketing perspective, 1+2 are trying to create a vibe and individual marketing angle to make them stand out - (for some people)

but to me it's annoying and stupid. if they listed their phones without all this stuffing around and plastic elitism then I'd might consider them (with due consideration on specs and value).

    • The invitation system is more for matching supply with demand. If they 500k people buy the OP2, but they only have 200k OP2 in stock.. then there are going to be 300k customers who are going to wait a long time for the production of the OP2 and are gonna be furious since they already paid.

  • For what it is worth I love my Oneplus One, but having to order it through a US delivery address was a pain in the arse. But, blazing fast interface, great screen, stunning camera, huge memory (I got 64gb), and I really like the feel. Not too big, as I have large man-hands.
The Two will ship with Oxygen OS, which my brother runs with NPs on his One, and I assume that Oneplus will have OTA updates available for that.
Highly recommended, but I don't feel the need to update just yet.
BTW, Oneplus has indicated that there will be more than 30 times more Twos sold than they made Ones, so maybe the invite system will not be needed.

  • Should we start an OZB Invite list?

Happy to share mine when I eventually get it but no idea when that will be.

  • I too was interested in this in terms of specs / value but I do have concerns re. the bands as well as a lack of sdcard. Luckily we will probably have enough time to read plenty of reviews.

  • I have a one plus, I have never had an issue but I am not sure on the one plus 2?

It has no NFC, Wireless Charging, or fast charging.

The battery time will be less.

    Runs Oxygen rather than Cyanogen

Reliant on slow technology in the USB 2 rather than 3

To be a true "flagship beater" I would think you need these features?

But on the other hand, for the price (about $450 - 500 landed here) do these really matter.

On the other hand I have NFC now (not much relevance yet but it will be very soon), I have good battery life and I have Cyanogen (albeit no longer gets OTA support) Why should I spend my money!

  • So forgive me for stupid question, but this is where I get confused with phones. Will this work on telstra/optus 4g? The whole gsm bands kinda loses me a bit.

    • Reception becomes Next G and 900MHz for distance Telstra Optus. Vs China telecom's (B5) 850MHz, Vodafone won't be a problem. G4 H818P is flagship to beat for true SIM dual 4G capability.

      • So next g means this will only get 3g data speeds? Not 4g correct?
        Thanks

        • Exactly.

        • @daver: Awesome! Thanks man!! Appreciate the assistance

        • Oh, one of the variants has (B3) 1800MHz, course. So possibly a limited 4G pickup, just a fraction of the expansive T&O LTE.

  • This is OnePlus zero for me. It is too expensive and at the price there are so many better choices from brand name such as HTC, LG, Samsung, and Sony.
