TV 60 or 55 inches? UHD or Full HD?

Hi
Been looking to get a new TV, not sure if to get a Full HD or UHD..
Been looking at Samsung UA60JU6400W. TGG quoted $2495 with a $250 store credit.. is that a good deal?
Mainly watch TV and Foxtel..
Thanks!

60 in if you can I'd say. UHD if you want to future proof a little bit. A lot of phones are coming out with UHD cameras - I have one and a UHD TV as well. The details are amazing…

But for just TV and Foxtel I doubt UHD has much use.

  • FHD, no 3D, smart, not curved, upto $2k = sweet spot for now
    UHD, 3D, more than $2k = just wasting $$$

  • Mainly watch TV and Foxtel

    If I was buying, I'd get a Full HD, non-3D, non-SmartTV.
If I had space for 60 inches, I'd get 60 inches. If not, I wouldn't. As noted above, $2,000 mark is the target.

  • Inches: Depends on your viewing distance. 60" is the new norm these days…
UHD: No point, unless you have NBN (etc…) + NetFlix
3D: A fad (but was fun watching Saw 3D once…)
Smart TV: I would HIGHLY recommend looking into Sony Android TV's. Before then, I liked LG WebOS. Otherwise, ChromeCast will make any TV "Smart"
Curve: Generally don't bother, however the subtle curve of the LG OLED 55" is surprisingly great
$$$: If you can afford it, look at the LG OLED TV's. The colours of a Plasma + the clarity of an LED.

    • Smart TV: IMO Meh, do you have a computer/ laptop (laptop is easier, because easier to move, if necessary) and plug in HDMI cable or VGA (if your pc doesn't have HDMI).

  • I always recommend to anyone to never be afraid of spending more for top picture quality. I bought a Sony flagship for ~$3300 about 4 years ago and I'm still getting picture that easily smashes ~$2000 TVs today. Incidentally UHD TVs happen to be the higher grade models, likely to have better specs, but this you will need to read up on.

  • I got the 55 version of the samsung you mention, from a deal mentioned here - $1566. Couldn't really justify the 60 with my small living area. Get the 60 if you have a big space. Worth getting the UHD if you have Netflix and cable/NBN. As others mention, UHD right now is mainly future proofing. Not many useful apps on the new Samsungs so far.

  • The UHD broadcasting standard has not been officially implemented so I would not be bothered with an expensive UHD TV. Once it's released, you might need to replace your $$$ TVs as they won't process the proper signal.

It is said that some of the manufactures has manufactured some expansion slots just for 'future proof' but I think you might change your TV anyway when they are getting either old or extra $$$ for upgrades.

Correct me if I am wrong.

  • FHD the way to go. Why you need UHD when its future proof. It can be 2 years to 10 years. Save some $$$ and put some extra money towards your new UHD TV every month/year when it will be out.
