    What's wrong with a teabag?

    • Nothing but if you own the machine might as well buy some use for it while the goings cheap.

I hate those pod machines with all the wasted packaging.

    • I love the convenience. Find me an alternative that is as quick & easy to use and I might consider it.

        Teabags.

      • I use one of these for my tea.

I can use loose leaf tea and I draw off what I want really easily as it comes out through the bottom by resting it on the cup. What I really like is you aren't trying to juggle a teapot full of water, the loose lid, or deal with the tea infusers in the cup. Being clear it is easy to see what strength the tea is to work out when to draw it off.

You do need to rinse it out to clean it.

        • I have something similar for loose leaf tea. I don't see how tea in a pod is better / quicker / easier than teabags or loose leaf tea.

My post wasn't clear enough that I was looking for an alternative for preparing 1-2 cups of coffee a day.

        • @mathew42:
There are smaller espresso machines, which take a little bit of cleaning but are quite simple to use. Especially if you don't want to play around with the frothing nozzle. Don't know where you are but South Melbourne Market has a stall that has an amazing array of small coffee machines that might be what you want. I think if you Google around you might locate something useful as well. We just use a coffee press.

If people are looking for a decent milk frother the Bialetti does actually work. (I have a grave yard of failed devices before I found this one). BTW I heat the milk in a glass container in the microwave before transferring to the machine for frothing. Means I don't need a stove top.

        • @try2bhelpful: With a capsule machine, the following steps are required:
          1. Turn on
          2. Insert capsule
          3. Press button

At the end of the week remove the used capsules.

I'm prepared to spend a little bit more effort at step 2, but not much.

  • Selliing cheap Capsules machines, then force you to buy capsules in the long run. No thanks!

It is like selling cheap printers then rip you off with the ink cartridges in the long run.

I disagree. Can't deny the packaging issue but it's a new product so not exactly comparable to a jar of instant.
On the same budget it is very hard to get a similar quality espresso shot in the home.
I've used different domestic barista style machines and this is the best solution for what I can afford and way simpler.
Small upfront cost for the machine and 40 cents a shot is a bargain in my books.

Tea bags cheaper and don't taste like remnants of coffee from coffee machine. Not a bargain. Buy tea bags.

  • Just FYI. The reasons why they are so cheap are:
    1) They are about to expire soon (August to November 2015)
    2) They are no longer in production. Most places would have them on sale.
    3) Just about every store is trying to clear stock.

Woolworths now sells them for $3 a box (or less). Everyone is trying to get rid of inventory.

Because they're a stupid idea that doesn't solve anything that was a problem in the first place.
