110

I visited NQR today (Broadmeadows VIC Store) and collected a catalogue for the next 2 weeks.

Front Page of catalogue: http://i.imgur.com/5eUtVs9.jpg?1

Lots of decent deals, but the main one is the 12x400g meal kits (tikka masala, massaman, thai green curry) with cooked rice in a separate (but attached) sachet. Just warm up in Microwave. At 40c each, this is a UNIVERSITY STUDENT deal to rival the mi goreng specials of late!!
Literally 100 boxes of the stuff was on display, but don't buy yet, sale starts Monday 3.8.15 (current deal is 3 for $3.00).

Standout for me is the Angostura Lemon Lime and Bitters 1.25 litre 2 for $2.99 - Massive bargain for genuine top quality brand name LLB.

Sale Starts Monday 10th August for Second Page deals.

  • Heinz Big 'n' Chunky Meals

Are they supposed to be chunky? Or is that why they are discounted?

  • Every time i see a post about NQR i go to their online store website and it says its under maintenance. Wish we had one of these and an aldi here in WA.

  • Can anyone comment on the Big n Chunky meals?
    Taste? Actual meat?

    • Nothing artificial, two separate packs (1x rice, 1x chicken) and looked like a decent ingredient list. I held a pack and it felt chunky, but didnt buy so cant comment on taste. I'm sure it's decent.

      • Cheers might give me a go. Can't go too wrong at 25c

    • I sampled the range. They are decent for the price, the rice is rock hard though, but i sprinkled some drops of water on it and put in microwave to soften up. Red curry was my pick of the bunch, but be warned - they gave me some legit gas…Im talkin serious brown gusts of wind.

  • They are crap, the rice is so terrible/chalky, so throw out the rice & combine the meat & sauce together which are tiny to make 1 meal for $3.

    • +1

Yeah I can't remember the sauce very well (Massaman Curry), but the rice was so terrible that I actually remember it from over a year ago.

      • If you microwave the $#!t out of the rice with some water, it softens right up.

      "At 40c each, this is…"

      $3.00/12 = 25 cents. Or have I missed something?

Anyways, rcrowl is bang on about the rice, it's virtually inedible. The meat bit is quite acceptable however, though it's very 'pedestrian' in flavour and very soft; like the stuff in their canned stews. So my advice if you buy 12 or more of these, would be to also buy a big (cheap) bag of uncooked rice to cook up with it. Also, personally I'd fortify the flavour a bit, with some cheap-but-powerful additions. Hot chilli for the indian stuff, garlic and/or basil for the Italian stuff, things like that.

Twenty-five cents a pop is really cheap, good find OP.

      • Yeh, i put some powdered stock, chilli and curry powder in mine with some frozen vegies and whaammmo! El microwavo rustico.
