28 Deg Credit Card Minimum Credit Limit

Hey fellow OzBargainers,

Was just asking my Mum if she'd got a 28 Degrees credit card yet, and she said she hadn't because the minimum credit limit is $6000! She doesn't need such a high credit limit.

When I got mine several years ago, the credit limit was $1000.

I just feel…disappointed. Any idea when the credit limit changed?

If a $6000 credit limit is way to high, then a Citibank Plus Debit card would be a better choice. Just load it with $1k or whatever.

    • This.
OP, not sure what the minimum is now, but it is now labelled a Platinum card where it never used to be.

    • She has one, but she never activated it. -_-

      Great suggestion though, thanks.

  • Does it matter, imo the higher the limit the better.

You need to earn a certain amount for a certain credit limit. You would need a higher salary for a $6000 limit than you would a $3500 limit.

      • Ok …didn't think of that..I've never had that problem.

Nah, Mum just likes a low limit in case the card gets stolen or whatever. She pays it off as soon as she's spent it.

  • It was $3500 a few years ago when I got my card. Maybe it's gone up a few times.

  • she can get a card on your account

  • GE upgraded the card to platinum about 2 years ago so the higher minimum credit. Better choosing some other card that doesn't have precious metal/jewel in it.

Last year when I got card, minimum limit was 1k, now it is 6k

  • If your mum wants to use it for travel Citibank is the better debit card , and 28 Degree for credit.

  • I called them up about this a while back because my bank made me get rid of the 28 degrees card when I was getting a loan. I was told the minimum limit to apply is 6k, however if you call up after you have the card you can opt to have a lower limit amount. This does mean you lose out on the benefits of it being a platinum card.
