NSW Pink Slip: Headlight with Moisture

Hi everyone,

One of my car's headlight has moisture inside. And I don't want to have the test failed because of that.
I would like to know is there anywhere I can find out the guideline of pink slip?

Thank in advance.

  • My car passed with a cracked (but complete) passenger side mirror this year. I suspect as long as the light works properly it will pass. The pink slip inspection isn't very thorough.

  • Call your mechanic beforehand. Most will tell you if it will pass.

If it's not a sealed unit, you could pop the bonnet, remove the bulb and get in there with some rolled up paper towel and absorb as much of it as you can and leave it open for the day to get some air in. Hairdryer may do the trick too.

  • Hi There.

Had an old car with condensation in the headlights. Remove a globe and hair-dryer the compartment till all moisture is gone. Replace the globe carefully (remember never to touch the globe with oily fingers, this will diminish its brightness over time). Get some clear silicon (for bathrooms or gutters) and apply sparingly to the suspected leaky points. I applied mine around the entire headlight perimeter and let dry 24hrs. The condensation was gone afterwards.

Does not guarantee a complete fix but hopefully this will resolve it for you.

  • Thanks guys. Spent about an hour this morning and got it done.

Eventually using an a hair dryer and also needed to drill a hole at a hidden place of the headlight unit to drip out the water.
