  • What's the normal price

    • Has been a free annual event organised by the Govt. and the AFL around this time of year for the past several years.

  • Now every one racially abuse each other and go home happy.

  • Is this a normal thing or has it been banged together in light of recent events involving Mr. Goodes?

  • Yawn. Maybe something to look at as you walk into the MCG to watch the Coll v Carl game, but I've walked past this event in the past few years and apart from the AFL playground, it looked pretty meh. Lots of food stalls though trying to sell you their international food, which is better than whats usually on offer. Wonder of they'll offer more Goodes for the children this year?

  • This will be an interesting experience…

    Cool….I will work on my Asian War Dance

    I'm waiting for the media release - 'either you come to AFL's multicultural festival, or you're racist'. 'It doesn't matter if you don't think so, the AFL does, that's all that matters'. They're certainly trying to shame a whole lot of none racist people into not booing, purely because it harms the AFLs reputation.

    Hooray for political correctness gone mad. Goodes plays a mean victim.

    • -3

      Goodes plays a mean victim.

      When a 13 year old learns to abuse others as ape, political correctness has definitely gone mad.

      • -5

        and I thought ADULTS teach CHILDREN to ignore such stupid insults? Hmmm.

        • +5

          … and the children learn these stupid insults from adults. Her parents have failed her. Goodes is being blamed for the failings of her parents.

        • @ms:
          Parents failed…meh you obviously do not have independent thinking teenagers that are capable of making their own decisions. The kid obviously may an error in judgement as 13 years olds do. Shit happens and she has paid a high price for it.

          As an adult Goodes made the decision to call out the 13 year old publicly. That also brings into question his judgement (and he is not 13) That has consequences and he is being judged by the public just as the young girl was judged by the media.

          My kids can make their own decisions but they know what is right and what is wrong.

          As an adult Goodes made the decision to call out the 13 year old publicly

          Did he know she was 13 when he called her out? I don't think any adult would have expected a 13 year old to be racially abusing another person. Guess he got caught out.

          jv, i find it disturbing that you will quote something, without quoting the final part (- but it's not her fault). Its like trying to change history.

          i find it disturbing that you do no understand what

          "Racism has a face. It's a 13-year-old girl" and "he hoped she would contact him to apologise." means…

          If he truly believed that it is not her fault, why did he call her a racist and expect her to apologize ???

        • +5

          @jv: did you actually what the video i posted?

          So Adam Goodes was racially vilified & hoped for an apology!

          Once again you are just pulling parts of quotes to suit your agenda.

          he also said 'I don't put any blame on her',

          "I just hope that people give the 13 year old girl the same sort of support because she needs it, her family needs it, and the people around them need it."

          "It's not her fault, she's 13, she's still so innocent, I don't put any blame on her,"

          "Unfortunately it's what she hears, in the environment she's grown up in that has made her think that it's OK to call people names."

          "I guarantee she has no idea right now how it makes people feel to call them an ape."

          So that she learns a lesson in life that her parents have not taught her.

        • -1

          @ms:

          Calling a black man an ape is racist.

          Prove it.

          @ms:

          So that she learns a lesson

          Why should she apologize when she said she didn't say it because of his race?
          She made no reference to his race at all in what she said.

        • +6

          @jv:

          Prove it.

          You want the proof, next time you go out and if you see a black man, call him an ape. You'll get the required proof.

        • -1

          @ms:

          next time you go out and if you see a black man, call him an ape.

          I don't call people apes because they a black (as the girl clearly stated that's not why she called him an ape)

          I call them apes if they carry on like baboons on the footy field though, regardless of their race !!!

          To call only white people apes, and exclude black people, is racist in itself…

        • +3

          @jv:

          Why should she apologize when she said she didn't say it because of his race?

          She should because she was abusing him. Pretty sure she wasn't saying, what a cute ape he is. Moreover, apologizing is something the younger generation is not very good at, so she can learn to face the consequences for her actions.

        • +3

          @jv:

          To call only white people apes, and exclude black people, is racist in itself…

          History is not on your side.

        • @ms:

          She should because she was abusing him.

          Then ALL the other 45,632 people at that game should have been charged for abusing other players and umpires during that game too… Why is Goodes so special ?

        • +1

          @ms:

          History is not on your side.

          A lot of mistakes have been made throughout history.

          It's about time we corrected them and treated people EQUALLY and not have different rules for certain races…

          I'll continue to boo Goodes at every game I watch him play whilst he keeps acting like a sook, just like I do all other players that are tools…

          So if someone doesn't agree with you, you call them a troll ?

          Seems like you are the one that needs to grow up.

          Something seriously wrong with how your parents brought you up if you think people shouldn't be treated equally…

        • @jubba:
          agree with you jubba, trolls never use sense or logic so there is no point arguing with them.

        • +4

          @jv:

          I'll continue to boo Goodes at every game I watch him play whilst he keeps acting like a sook,

          I don't mind the booing, but if he is getting booed because he stood up to a person who called him an ape, then the people booing him have a chip on their shoulders.

        • +1

          @ms:

          I think once we acknowledge that the booing could be racist it should stop.

          There are somethings we should care about more than our right to boo

        • @jv:

          Trololol

        • -1

          @Dean04:
          Of course, but kids don't listen all the time. Why? Because they're kids. I certainly never would have done what that girl did when I was a child, but lots of kids are ignorant… That's life.

          Goodes had a right to have a go at the parent, not the child. Bad choice, hence part of the reason most think he's a flog.

        • @jubba:
          Who's the 'we' you speak of? Who gets to make that call?

        • -2

          @ms:

          If the afl crowd is racist, why don't we see people boo the other indigenous players? If the afl crowd are racist, why wasn't Goodes boo'ed in his prior 10years of playing?

          He was boo'ed for his actions, not for his skin colour.

        • +1

          @cloudy:

          Which "actions" do the crowd boo him for?

          Confronting someone for calling him an ape? That's a taunt deeply seated in racial bigotry, and booing him for pointing it out is racist.

          His spear throwing gesture? That was an expression of his culture, and booing him for that is racist.

          The fact that he's outspoken about aboriginal issues in Australia, as a representative of his people? Booing him for that is racist.

          Obviously it can't be because he's a "flog" or milks penalties or takes dives, because he was doing that in his prior 10 years of playing.

          I can't comprehend how people don't understand this, or think that their right to boo someone is somehow more important than not being racist. If people didn't understand that booing him was racist, fine, but once you're told, what's the motivation to continue?

        • +2

          @cloudy:

          Joanne told Fairfax Media that Goodes owes her daughter an apology for the "unfair" treatment she received from MCG security staff and police after calling the player an "ape".

          http://m.smh.com.au/afl/sydney-swans/mother-of-teen-who-sled…

          The mother is of the girl is an absolute douchebag.

        • @one man clan:

          How do u know everyone is booing him for pointing out the girl? Maybe the crowd doesnt like the way he celebrates his goal.

          I can't understand how it is racist to not like a person for their action (ie; cultural expression) and not their skin colour. By definition racism is to discriminate based on their race, clearly this is a issue with goodes, and not aboriginals. If it were, all aboriginal players would be copping this abuse, not just goodes.

          Again, goodes would have been copping this years ago, not just now.

          Also, I'm not sure how u feel, but if someone pretended to throw a spear at you, or maybe a modern version such as pretending to shoot you with a gun, tell me how inclined u are to accept it kindly.

          I don't like him being called a ape, or any other names. But him being booed upon, is not racist.

        • @ms:

          I dunno why I need to know about the girl or the mother. I haven't made any comment about them.

  • I have to admit that it is just funny what they consider multiculturalism in the AFL. They should at least do a profile of the origins of some of the players and especially the fans who go to games… then they will realize that what they are offering during the day doesn't represent a fraction of the different cultures involved in this code. I am not gonna talk about Goodes since the indigenous round is long gone and I think they are totally different issues/origins but everybody tries to mix them together.

  • +3

    I own a car with 4 black tyres and I have a coloured TV but do not call me racist.

    I boo Goodes because he plays the victim, plays dirty and his antics are put on display to cause a reaction. It is just that he does not like the reaction.

    • Exactly agree with that.

    • +1

      I'll call you a racist because you are. Because it what the booing of Adam goods has become to symbolise.

      He plays the victim… Mate. He is a bloody victim of years of racial slurs, there is no playing. And you clearly have no understanding, hence you'll no doubt keep booing. Not that you ever could share his perspective, despite your tv and tyres.

      If anything good is to come out of this it will hopefully be raising the issue up. There is, clearly, a long way to go in this country. About time we got started.

      • -3

        Sticks and stones….

        Race Card - The tool of the intellectually weak and lazy when they cannot counter a logical argument of factual data.

        Well played Chook but you have missed the mark. I only Boo Goodes for the reasons I previously and quite clearly stated and not because of the colour of his skin. I, as a paying customer have every right to passionately express my opinion by way of a Boo if I think one of my team has been hard-done-by, by Goodes and to support my team.

        It hurts my brain when ignorant people try to make it into something it so clearly is not.

  • +4

    I bet you in 50 years, people will look back and see Goodes are a hero as a non-white person in a country and we will have posts/comments on how stupid we sounded back then.
