On gear best, they are selling the headphones for ~$27 aud and on mushtato, it is about ~$35. However, I have heard a lot about mushtato's reputation. What to do?

Not too sure, they usually pop up often enough (like once every week?). Mushtato might do one soon (since they've mentioned that they might do one when their next batch of Piston 3 comes on one of the deals they've recently ran).
I personally think Piston 3 is alright for its price, but it's slightly overhyped in my opinion, so don't expect too much from it.
Grab them when they are on special, I personally see both sides as valid (mushtato, arrives earlier and relatively hassle free vs Chinese retailers, much cheaper). I personally see the price that Mushtato is selling when they are not on special to be slightly too steep compared to the Chinese retailers. When they are on special, Mushtato sells their products at a reasonable price.
I've personally never had problems with the Chinese retailers, so I usually just go for the Chinese retailers like gearbest, geekbuying etc. That said, I think you could easily find a horror story about services and things not arriving etc. Those Chinese free shipping do take a long time (I recommend you forget about them and set yourself a reminder near when the Paypal dispute closes) as well. So I personally see it as a trade off between the perceived risk + time it takes to arrive and price.
