Chuwi Hi8 Bought from GeekBuying Faulty after 2 Weeks

Hi, I purchased Chuwi Hi8 from Geekbuying on 24 June 2015 and received it on 21 July 2015. It was all good, I like the tablet until this morning when I took it out of the sleeve. The screen shows a big black spot. The spot moves as I give light pressure to the screen so I assume the LCD has leaked.

I am very disappointed as it is a good tablet for the price (I got it for US94).

I contacted Geekbuying on how I could claim the warranty.

Anticipating that it might be tough emails back-and-forth, I just want to explore my options and would like your opinions.

From GB page:

  1. Within 1 month: GKB (free repair warranty)
GeekBuying will give you credit of the shipping fee partial in the form of coupons and partial of the refund to your PayPal account.

The question is, that one months is from I put my order or from I received the product?

I paid by Paypal using Citibank credit card. Is there any protection from Paypal and/or Citibank on faulty product within a month of use? I think Citibank has buyer protection but I need to contribute the first $100 for every claim so it doesn't work for any purchase up to $100.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

      ^ This

Also, a product cannot be determined as faulty if it has not yet been received. I would argue your point from date of receipt.

    • Hi nocure, that 180 days is for warranty or for dispute in case I didn't receive the item or the item is not as described? I just want to make sure. Because I have received the product and it was working perfectly (in the first two weeks).

How do I lodge a claim for this? Thank you.

EDIT: I guess what I tried to say was the item is not DOA

    • Up to 4 refunds to the value of $45 each on eligible purchases until 31 July 2015.

PayPal gives a range of scenarios in which you're covered by its Buyer Protection policy:
    * You received a completely different item,
    * You purchased two items, but received one
    * An item is defective but not immediately obvious
    * You bought the original, but received a counterfeit.

Is it a black spot like this? http://i.imgur.com/z4qQHy8.jpg

If so, it might be the digitizer stuck to the LCD. Here's an explanation and fix for such a problemhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6kFUhyUyz6k

    • Hi @Thrift, wow … that's amazing. That's exactly the issue I am having. I will give it a try … though I guess I will need to be very careful as I don't want to make it worse. But thanks.

My screen has been fine since the unsticking: http://i.imgur.com/rQc25u3.jpg

scupper also had a sticky screen, and found that video about sticking it.

    • This is excellent @Thrift. I fixed my Chuwi Hi8 although with slightly different method. I lightly press the back of the tablet and after few light press the screen make an audible pop and my screen fixed. Thank you.

As you have the same device, I am wondering if you have the same problem as I do. I can't listen to music with headphone on. The music (regardless music player app I use: poweramp, google music, spotify) keeps pausing. Wondering if you have the same issue. Thanks.

      • Do your headphones have a TRS (stereo) or TRRS (stereo+mic) jack? diagram

        • Hi Thrift I have tried both TRS and TRRS with the same result.
