Kids skateboard

Hi everyone, not sure where to post this so please move if it's not appropriate here.

I'm thinking of buying a skateboard for my 3 year old son. Not sure whether this is a good idea or not. He is very coordinated for his age, learnt to ride a scooter at the age of 18 months and a balance bike at the age of 2. However we haven't tried him on a proper peddle bike as yet. I just thought it would be fun for him to try a skateboard but I'm worried that it might be too dangerous at his age. What are people's thoughts?

Also if we do decide to get one, what is a good skateboard for him to start learning on? Where would I buy one?

Thanks

Helmet and knee pads and he's good to go.

    • Yep will def get him some padding if he does ride a skateboard :)

Wrist guards are a good idea too ;-)

What is appropriate? Knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards?

        • Yep, tho a helmet is probably a good idea too. In all my years skating as a youngster all my injuries (broken arms) were sustained by trying to stop myself falling- wrist guards would of prevented that.

  • This is cheap and branded :)

(Spotted this deal the other day. Yeah who'd have thought BCF would have a skateboard!)

    • Who knew!lol
Although this skateboard looks more like an adult skateboard than a kid's skateboard?

  • It's abit hard to research for kids skateboards, not much info on the kids part. Found this one from velogear, down from $79 to $39 with a code:

Seems like a good buy. It has alum frame and poly wheels. Or I can get the $10 ( down from $59) but that has pvc wheels and poly frame. Not sure whether to spend more on a better one or not. I feel like I should spend abit more and get a better quality one, just in case he loves it and can use it for years to come

To be honest I'd reckon a cheap and nasty would be better to learn on. I'm in no way a skateboard rider, and the easiest one I've tried to ride was one that had terrible bearings so it wouldn't roll away too quick. Made it easier to get the hang of initially.

If your kid loves it then upgrade later, if not you haven't wasted much.

  • hi OP,
What did you end up buying? Any good? I'm looking for a skateboard too for a 3-4 yr old. Was told the character ones at toysrus, bigw etc are toys and not good and very hard to learn. Went to a skate park run by YMCA and asked and was told it cost $100-200 for a good one to be built for learning…..
