I hope you get to come to Australia one day Bauer, the legal and orderly stand-in-line way of course.

Also, hopefully you will allow your children to date and potentially marry non-Chinese people when they are grown.

    • +2

      yes, he will :)

      • My partner is Asian, she's the best thing since best things, and not from Australia.

        • so, you have good feeling to Asian girls :)

        • @Bauer: So far so good. :)

  • +2

Hey I don't believe your real name is Ivy if you are from China.

    • +1

It's called an english name or preferred name; most chinese adopt one for business communications.

    • +3

my english name is ivy exactly as my Chinese name wei is similar pronunciation with ivy :)

      • +4

No it's not…. Unless you pronounce Wei as Way-Vi

        • +2

It can be if she pronounces Ivy as Ai-Wei.

        • @lenlynn: Um, if she does, and she ever lives in the West, she probably should change her surname by deed poll to 'Cool'!

        • 404 error Wai-Fu not found.

        • @Tas: Haha that is actually really how I would think "Ivy" in Chinese would be. Ai Wei. How would you translate Ivy, @Wallyt99?

Like, my ex-classmate's name was Yvonne and Yi-Fang. I think her parents were Chinese-illiterate and just translated "Yvonne" for her chinese name.

  • +2

Many Australians use Whatsapp to chat..

  • +6

    ICQ

  • Out of interest, do you feel safe using Wechat/QQ? Though I understand you probably have no other choice given you need to socialize with friends which are mostly Chinese I guess. Can you access OZB from China without using VPN?

    • i will delete some guys who i dislike or dangerous. My computer always for vpn connection, but we can login ozbargain without vpn, i just tried on our IT guy's computure :)

Time for lunch, see u and enjoy your dinner too :)

    • +1

I had wechat on my phone….it's definitely a spying tool

  • +1

I use WeChat because I can buy ciggie decks for $5..

and sometimes I like to have a look at some prostitutes they have.

Chinese underground market is the best!!!

      She already has a 'lover'!

Not sure why you were downvoted so much, either. Maybe people are still bitter about you leaving for a tropical paradise.

      • Kinda / kind of, in keeping with Jar Jar's comment - welcome to OzBargain, Bauer.

@AlexD JJB, and maybe just for the benefit of his wife, was, I believe, just cheekily alluding to his possible 'availability' in the maybe not too distant future, with other things maybe also sooner than the 'previously planned'.
Their relationship is in a state of flux, at the moment.

Hint: OzB has a couple of forum categories that - sidebar, live feed etc., are generally hidden. Seek them out if you're keen / silly.

@JJB Détente with DJ Wiki, over the weekend, I hope.

        • +1

@ TAS, no plans for the weekend. Je suis malade … tellement malade :(

I can't believe how draining it is to act normal around the kids.My daughter said " Its ok to be sad , Da" , gave me a big hug before running off to school this morning and my son suggested that I took the day off from work. So I did.

I texted my assistant that I was having a mental health day and won't be coming in and then switched off my phone. I was secretly hoping they would send supergirl aka ms Mauritius aka Wicket1120. They didn't :( She's probably busy saving the world or junkies or young people sleeping rough on the streets or …in court. I'm still a little disappointed that she didn't come. I'm selfish like that
          :(

They sent Doc…with a gourmet pizza, beer and cheesecake.Doc is a highly-qualified doctor. But not a doctor of medicine. He ate half of my pizza and drank my beer.So now I'm eating a whole cheesecake with a fork and drinking an expensive wine bottle left over from my 10th wedding annif , while watching Scrubs on dvd. Season 4, of course.

I'm starting to feel a little better. I might go for a run tomorrow morning. Maybe shave. Maybe not. I will definitely call Wiki and the kids first thing in the morning. Maybe we could go to the movies or something. we'll see…

          Have a good weekend, Tas.

        • +2

I knew I shouldn't have looked at my email this morning…

Can I interest you in a 25c plastic bucket? Possibly too late now. After all of that cheesecake and wine, I dare say that you may have needed it.
If you woke up with a hangover and still went for a run, you are a better man than I am.

In order to affirm your loyalty to Australia (you know, the thing your wife won't do. lol), you probably should have watched one or other of the last series of Scrubs that featured occasional glimpses of Australia's own Nicky Whelan. Enjoy that extra slice of cheesecake.

Continued in the D & R forum. You know where.

        • @Jar Jar Binks:

Did Doc go back to 1985 after drinking your beer?

        • @Scrooge McDuck:

Did Doc go back to 1985 after drinking your beer?

If only… but no. This Doc is my work nemesis. He also happens to be our resident shrink. His area of expertise is PMD. So I don't understand why they've sent him.

If you woke up with a hangover and still went for a run, you are a better man than I am.

The only way to get rid of a hungover is sweating it out and drinking lots of fluid.

So yes, I did go for a run, after spending over an hour in the home gym. I stopped by Wiki's place on my way back. Was kind of hoping she'll see me and come out for a chat. She didn't, of course. She's rarely up at 6 a.m on saturdays.

Someone else saw me though … and came out to say hello and shower me with love :) Ewok, our shih Tzu!

He insisted on following me home. He walked for the first 500m and I carried him for the next 4000 ones. Tas, if you're ever planning on dognapping a shih Tzu, may I suggest that you bring a getaway car or a bicycle, with a basket? Even a pram might do the job but whatever you do , don't plan on carrying them in your arms. They are deceptively heavy, wiggle way too much and will try to lick your face at every opportunity they get. Not safe. Not hygienic. Not cool :)

          @Jar Jar Binks:
I've just read your comment in the other thread, along with a message from a certain someone. She may have a maybe-welcome (maybe-not-really-welcome lol) surprise for you when she sees you later.

I hope that lunch is lovely.

If you need an early-Sunday-morning distraction until then (and, yep, it looks like you could have done with a distraction or two, last night), here's a suggestion:

New forum topic (thankfully not in the D & R section):
'101 Things To Do With A Red Plastic Bucket'

          I'll start you off..

          1) Wine and cheesecake chunder (photo not attached)
          2) More convenient kidnap and carry for the wife's super-squirmy shih-Tzu (photo attached)

          N.B.Mr.B.RE: (photo attached)
I seem to recall you posting a very cute photo of Ewok, once before. I may have the most eclectic Instagram feed of any human alive, with the 'aww' factor also very high in that feed. This from yesterday, This from the day before, so make it good!

@ Ivy/Wey , I apologise if my question was offensive. It was a genuine question. Some of your comments led me to believe that you may be looking for a husband:

ok, call me then i will call you :)

i failed to refresh my profile photo, i refresh many times but still no changing :(

come to Shenzhen, we will be famous and new life too LOL

Clearly, I have mistaken a market research for flirtation. My bad.

      • +2

Me bad too. Puts plastic bucket on head.

      • When the heart is left wanting, the brain comes second.

        • :(

Helloo!! I'm an Australian born chinese person (ABC) and use Wechat (to communicate with my parents/family), Facebook and Whatsapp (with friends). I have a QQ account but I only use it for QQMusic. How are you finding Australia so far? :)

    • friendzoned

        awkward moment when I'm female.

    • hi, i am now working as online marketing girl, and my manager sent OZbargain to me for sending some good deals.
And i was trying to introduce myself here, and it is nice for me to make new friends here :)

  • +1

I think the most common in Aus is whatsapp… i have Line, viber and FB messenger as well though.

Just by chance, is your husbands name Jack? AHAHA i made a funny……

anyway, probably a little late, but welcome to Oz and OzB

    • +1

hi, my husbands named EE, same pronounce with his Chinese name. He is IT guy and also is a good father. He is very handsome, and he likes beer and basketball :)

  • The power Ozbargain has now attracted sellers directly from China…moved here as well to sell you stuff….promoting migration…I see a lot of replies due to gender preference and yet…this reflects real life as well. The ratio of male/female on Ozbargain is unknown, but after reading this I can see what the odds are.

WeChat/Weibo is popular here for Chinese community eg. Uni students. Whatsapp/Viber/FB is what everyone use.

Also Snapchat, but that's for the silly kids taking photos. Matures use Instagram

So this is going to turn into a lovey dovey forum?

    • Nothing is impossible LOL

  • I'm mixed British and HK, I previously lived in Beijing, China for 3 years so I also use Wechat. Mostly to contact my friends which I met in China or friends here which have originally come from China. I also use Whatsapp for those who have that, but in general Australians use Facebook messenger.

Actually I prefer Wechat over all the others (Whatsapp, Line, Facebook messenger etc) because of how easy it is to send voice messages and photos. Also the social Moments aspect is pretty cool to keep up with old friends :)

    • it is happy to hear that Wetchat is the most one you like, yes, it is easy to send voice messages, and little video :)

  • I wish people would use a real messaging… system, called HANGOUTS.

    It's free, like whatsapp etc.
It also integrates your SMS message.
You can also send messages through GMail on your computer.

    • You can also open unknown MMS on Android Hangouts for special surprises!

    • But what does Google do with your data?

      • I don't know… Nothing harmless (for now) it seems…

Do you not use Google, or have a Gmail account? I think by this point, we are all (profanity) anyhow.

        • I use Google without cookies from different UAs and IPs.

I've never had a Gmail account except for throwaway ones. FYI, I've never had a social media account either!

        • @Scrooge McDuck:

Oh wow… What email would you recommend, to a noob? Gmail's been good for me, but mainly because it just 'worked' without any bells or whistles (in my opinion).

        • @inose:

I'd recommend that you find some free web-hosting, buy a cheap domain name with 10 years of registration and use Roundcube. But I'm no expert.

For webmail I'd use multiple throwaway outlook accounts. Although MS are cracking down and suspending them at the moment.

        • @Scrooge McDuck:
I guess you are a IT or tech guy :)

  • Just curious
but why don't china gov block VPN providers?

    • They do.

      • but the OP said she can use VPN to access the block sites

      • yes, right, lots of VPN service website be closed a few month :(

  • Whats app, line and kik( (for confidential chat).

  • I wonder why not someone create an app like Whatsapp/Tinder/HotorNot for those sluts out there? Would be easier to use, you know we can save time. Also, lots of Jacks will download the app I bet (count me in). Any IT nerd around? Will sell my idea for some money :)

Anyway, what should we name the app?
    I guess-Slults app.

Isn't that already what Tinder is for? Why not hang out at your local Sexual Health Clinic?

There's an ancient Chinese proverb back where I'm from (somewhere in Eastern Europe) which loosely translated reads:

If you spend an hour catching a fish, you eat it. If a dead fish washes up on the shore, you keep walking.

      • Well Well Well @Scrooge McDuck someone stole my idea and here it is- Ohlala and its comming soon.
