im currently on vodafone sim only plan, i want to port my vodafone number to the optus new sim card.
how long it normally takes?

i reckon closer to 5 mins…. you request port, continue with voda till signal disappears, bung in optus sim, done.
Vodafone to Telstra took 88hrs.. I could still use my Vodafone connection up until it switched over to Telstra. I didn't notice any down time, so probably 5 mins.
Obviously it's not the norm for it taking that long as Telstra stuffed up the procedure (released the deal before modifying their systems, while being ozbargained).
can i use optus sim card starter pack to recharge another optus prepaid card?
if cant, how about porting the optus sim card to another optus sim card?
no
nocan port out using a $2 sim card (boost, etc) then port back in. tedious, but that's what an OzBer must do!
