Has Anyone Come across This Sales/Marketing Tactic? Free Quadcopter

So my boss was sent a quadcopter from someone who sent it as a marketing/sales pitch and offered to provide the remote control if we had a meeting with them. I haven't looked at the contents of the box yet but I think it comes with the quadcopter but no remote. My boss said I could have it if I knew how to use it.

Is it easy to go and get some universal remote and program it to be used with the quadcopter? If so, what details do I need to know about the quadcopter to find a compatible remote?

I got an RC car from American Express a couple of years ago. Now Amex has a useless remote lying around, and I've got a nice decorative scale model of a Ferrari sitting on my coffee table.

  • Give us the make and model of the quadcopter.

There are quite a few remote controllers that can handle quite a few brands of quads.

  • If you know what quadcopter it is, you probably could find the controller on eBay.

Quad copter remotes can either have 4,6,8 or 9 channels.

You need to determine what model and make your QC is and find out how many channels it has.

Then buy a remote controler (the correct term is transmitter) with the corresponding number of channels. It usually bundles both the transmitter and a receiver. Receiver plugs into the quad copter's flight system and allows it to interface with the transmitter.

the best place to buy them would be HobbyKing and you can check out the Turnigy 9x 9ch remote control, which is a budget remote that's less than a hundred bucks.

    • What if the quadcopter is a syma x5c? Then the Transmitter would be a bit of an overkill.

      • I'm assuming that OP was sent some high end unit. If it's a cheap no-brand chinese one that was bought off GearBest…. lol, i'd just sell it off on eBay.

  • "…i'd just sell it off on eBay."

Without a remote? What, for 'spare parts' scrimmers? ;P

Seriously OP, without any real information of course we're all 'flying blind' here…
Bust it out of the box. Post a pic of it sitting on top of a ruler here on OzB. While it's not at all my field, there's even an outside chance that it might be able to be controlled via a mobile phone app. But of course, we need to know EXACTLY WHAT TYPE OF COPTER YOU HAVE there…

    • Banana for scale please Op

  • Just give it away to a kid as a toy.
