Amazon Treats Their Employees Really Badly

For anyone that has time, this lengthy article from the NY Times details how really appallingly this company treats its employees. Sounds like a terrible place to work and may make you think twice before buying something from them. Such a ruthless, bullying and money driven culture…

  • Ha good, its about time white collars did some real work for a change.

    • Working overtime with no pay, no penalty rates, no weekend pay, no Mondays off in lieu and no meal allowances unless on the rare chance you travel for a few days.

White collars have it so easy in Australia.

      • The most awesome bit is when you need to take your phone and laptop on family holidays to locations selected as much by internet connectivity by anything else and be ready to work at the drop of a hat without any extra pay or time off.

  • Can't say I care one way or the other.

  • +2

Press/media only bomb retailers who don't pay them for advertising. Remember when the 6:30 shows used to get into Aldi. Now they do it to Costco and NEVER mention their fuel prices. Tey could write this stuff about anyone, so take it with a grain of salt

    • Although you should take everything you see on the internet with a grain of salt, I had a few years experience with a fortune 50 company with a similar love of metrics (personal or otherwise) and similar disregard for the human aspect of their employees.. They weren't as good as executing the idea as Amazon supposedly is. The best day of my time there was when I found out about my redundancy - in the company newsletter.

    • I remember them trashing Aldi every chance and the next thing they had Aldi winning best value for certain products.

      • you know what? I dont think anyone here has to credentials to criticise the New York Post. Amazon doesnt advertise on conventional media anyway…

        • Wha? The article is from the NY Times and I am criticizing A Current Affair/Today Tonight.

  • Would I work for Amazon. Probably but I would play their games and not take it to heart. Work the culture, look like you are putting in the extra hours, come up with a whole bunch of ideas that you probably can't implement. (I know how about Unicorns that fart rainbows and we will drop the parcels down from there). When they cut you from the organisation your next employer won't blame you as Amazon has a crap reputation. Frankly this organisation is just stupid, as people leave they take their domain knowledge with them and then busily trash the organisation to all their friends. Darwinism only works well if you actual get left with the fittest.

  • Suicide nets in 3, 2, 1…

  • well if they're mostly hiring grads and turning them over, i'd work there if i was straight out of uni and couldn't get a job any where else.

  • doesnt surprise me at all

IMO these things are a top down epidemic… if the CEO is a pile of shit then really, the buck stops with him

Bezos has always been a pile of shit.

  • Its a shame that a big name like Amazon does this.
