I personally can't get past the huge CW branding on the dials. Apparently they are well made, however I think they are expensive (60 pounds for a metal bracelet!). Also I'd prefer to know which movement I am getting- "Calibre: Sellita SW200-1 (or ETA 2824-2) - stock dependent." Just my opinion.

Cannot really trust a watch brand that sells almost 500 (!) models, anywhere between 199 GBP and 3500 GBP. Are these guys for real?

    • I know where you are coming from bur have you ever seen the rolex line-up.
I couldn't believe it when I walked past them

      • Surely you wouldn't want to compare a brand that was founded in 2004 with the Swiss guys doing it for more than 100 years, do you? :)
For the record, Rolex sells about 40 models; however, you can customise most of them (color, band, date/no date and so on).
Also, their price range is more understandable. I think Chr Ward has identity issues…

        • Invicta was founded in 1837 in La Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland by the Picard family. Unfortunately they went broke in the Quartz revolution of the 1970's and were bought out by an American/Asian company that now makes cheap watches in Chinese factories and now owns the rights to stamp the old swiss brand name on them.

I would prefer a CW watch that is actually made under licence in Switzerland and contains a Swiss movement than just about any Invicta in existence. The ETA/Sellita movement argument is difficult as I am told there is little difference between them. The ETA is obviously better known but as Swatch own ETA and have restricted selling movements to any manufacturers outside the Swatch group, it can be impossible to get movements for any of the independent brands. I have a couple of Sellita movement watches and they have been great for me. Be careful about assuming the heritage of all watches that claim to be 'Swiss'.

CW and Invicta are not hugely sought after brands.

No one knows what the hell they are, no one wants them.

@tonyjzx: 'Sought After' is a term used by Marketing guys to justify a price premium. I am sure that Rolex and Breitling are much better marketed and 'sought after' as a status symbol than CW. You wont see George Clooney on a CW advert. If you cant afford $10K for a watch but still want a quality swiss made watch with a Swiss automatic movement inside, CW are in my opinion one of the better options out there. With this code you can get a good quality swiss made watch with a swiss auto movement for under $1K AUD. In the 'affordable' category I have also had Hamilton and Mido watches (Swatch group) and i think the CW was every bit as well made as any of them. i have a TAG Heuer at the moment that cost many times more than the CW and is comparable in quality.

If anybody knows where i can get a 'sought after brand' watch for under $1K new please post it up because i will buy a a Blancpain '50 fathoms', a Rolex Submariner, an Omega Planet Ocean, a JLC Reverso and a Patek Phillipe Calatrava. I can only afford $1K each and i dont buy fakes!

Might as well be $1million off, because these are el cheapo watches commanding unreasonable prices. Unless you are buying a quality swiss automatic, you might as well buy a $30 swatch, or $10 casio special.

Have you ever owned one? I have, used to own a C60 Trident and it was anything but 'el-cheapo'. If you are after an el cheapo watch look at the Swiss Legend or Invicta deals on Amazon. My C60 was a great watch and a bargain worth much more than what I paid for it. I am wearing an Omega Aqua Terra as I type this and, whilst the C60 was maybe not as nice as the Omega it wasn't too far behind and cost me less than a third of the price.

Chris Ward also used to have the best guarantee in the industry, used to let you have the thing for a couple of months and if you didnt like it, for any reason, you could send it back for a full refund, no questions asked. Pretty sure Rolex or Omega or Blancpain or Patek Phillipe wouldn't do that!

Also be a bit careful about the perceived history behind some of the watch brands, not all of the Swiss brands are as old as their brand name. Brands like Invicta, Rotary etc all went broke in the 70's and their names and heritage were bought by Asian companies that then made cheap watches and tried to sell at a premium because of the old swiss name they stamped on the front! You are safe with a Vacheron Constantin but check some of the others and dont assume all claimed 'swiss' watches are from exclusive manufacture'

Personally I can't stand the stock Rolex Datejust or President despite it being the stereotype 'swiss watch' (maybe a bit partial to a GMT or Submariner though). Monetary value aside, I would probably rather wear a CW watch that I liked than a 2 tone Rolex Datejust.

I can also attest that the C60 I owned held its value pretty well. I sold mine after a couple of years when i was raising money for another watch, sold it on the Watchuseek boards for almost what I bought it for 3 years previously! CW C60's are held in pretty high regard over there. Mine had the ETA 2824 movement inside.

        Stand corrected.

I have a total of 6 CW watches and let me tell you, if you haven't owned one or seen one in real life don't judge so hastily. They are quality time pieces.
