    • 30 bottles is so not enough!

      • Alas, $1199 is too much!

I get it that it's Penfolds, so it costs a lot higher, especially for this Poor's Grange.
However, with JH 95 pts, others gave it 92 & 94 pts, is it worth $52? maybe yes, but can I buy better wines for $52? definitely YES!

    • Wynns has always been a cheaper substitute for most of the Penfold which comes with similar taste. To me, the Wynns black range (normally $20 to $30) is equivalent to the 407 and 389s.

I wouldn't be just judging a wine based on points.
It is a good pointer, but you also need to add personal preference.

      • true, but personal preference based on

        • cabernet sauvignon vs cabernet sauvignon merlot malbec
        • multi-region vs single-vineyard margaret river
        • brand

        ?

penfolds is considered by many not to be good value - overpriced due to branding :)

      • Wines with a good score does not automatically equal to a "good" wine (our taste buds are built differently), but it does provide a certain level of assurance to the wine itself.

  • Surprisingly good wine though.. not much to say for the past vintages but 2012 tasted more intense than the back vintages that I tried. Currant taste more pronounced, mouthful deep and layered.

Of course you pay a premium for the brand, but I would recommend it if you have someone you need to impress.

The 389 on the other hand I find to be sub-par compared to back vintages.

Used a Wish Gift Card I got from CashRewards for another 5% off $108 of the purchase amount ($5.40)
Paid the remaining $100 with my Amex with $15 statement credit on $100 spend ($15)

Am I doing this OzBargain thing right?

    • Regardless on your position on points based selection, Halliday points are defiantly different to Dan Murphy's guy points :P.

  • Already expired.

    • I went to pick up my 4 bottles from my local DM in ACT. Guy who helped me with my collection said they had an online order for 10 cases earlier in the day, basically wiped their allocation.
