Generic Telfast (Active Ingredient Fexofenadine) - 120mg Tablets

My husband suffers from hayfever and finds tablets with fexofenadine are the only ones that work for him - he takes either 180mg or 120mg doses depending on the severity, and prefers to use the lower dose whenever possible. There's no problem getting specials on bulk packs of the 180mg tablets in various brands, but not so nowadays with the 120mg. We used to buy packs of 120mg Fexotabs from Pharmacy Direct, which came in packs of 50 for around $22 but unfortunately no one seems to carry these any more. Up until recently, we were getting a brand called TrustFex from the local Discount Drug Store - an absolute bargain at $7.99 for 30 tablets, but went in there last week and they no longer have them and no other pharmacies seem to carry this brand. The next cheapest I can find is Xergic - 30 x 120mg tabs for $9.69 at Pharmacy Direct so might have to look at getting those - Chemist Warehouse no longer sells Xergic and Discount Drug Store's price for the same pack is $17.99!

Has anyone seen these 120mg tabs (brand doesn't matter, they're all much of a muchness) any cheaper for 30 tablets - or anywhere that still has bulk packs (50-70 tablets) of these?
Thanks!

  • As a suggestion you can always cut the larger dose in 1/2 with a knife.

I have the same issues (Hayfever) and the only thing that works for me is pseudoephedrine which is expensive, requires a licence and i'm not keen to take too much of it because it keeps you pretty wired. I usually take 1/2 a tablet of Demazin which does the job without the side effects. That and it lasts longer too.

  • Thanks for the suggestion - we've got a pill cutter so have tried cutting the larger ones in half, but unfortunately find that the resulting dose (90g) isn't quite enough.

That's the frustrating thing, isn't it - you quite often find that only one or two particular formulas or ingredients work for you. I guess that's why there's so many different ones on the market!

  • I often take three quarters of a tablet.

  • My guess would be that very very few people use the 120mg tabs…I work in Pharmacy and we pretty much only sell the 180mg as they are the full adult dose.

    • +1

Yes, I think that must be the case, as the availability and range of the 120mg tabs seems to have decreased significantly over the last few years.
