Las Vegas Wedding ideas & tips

Myself and partner have just got engaged and we were throwing up some wedding ideas and one of them was getting hitched in Vegas baby. A bit kitsch I know but would be heaps of fun we reckon!
So we're looking for ideas tips and other ozbargainer's Vegas experience. It won't happen till around Oct/Nov 2016 but it gives us plenty of time to plan for it and save.
We want it to be the perfect Vegas trip without hitting too many snags and pitfalls aand most importantly it has to be value for money.
All up our budget would be around $20k and 10 days between LA/San Fran and Vegas.
We've started looking at accommodation and come across the Luxor hotel which looks OK and is right next door to the Mandalay. Any thoughts on it?

personally, would look to the middle of the strip, Mandalay Bay/Luxor is at the far end.

Something in the vicinity of Caesars places you right in the middle - The mirage isnt a bad option, good pool area and mid priced if important.

Re; Wedding, I newed my vows a few years back on a whim, here: http://www.gracelandchapel.com/ with Elvis. Kitsch as hell, but enjoyable all the same.

    Hope that helps!

    • Thanks for your reply kuepper. Those Graceland weddings look ace and exactly what we're looking for. The Mirage and Caesars sound good too and have mostly good reviews and at good prices. And a much better position on the Strip compared to the Luxor! I'd nearly pick Caesars just for the name alone haha

    Hey Sk1ppy,

My wife and I got married in Oct 2013 in Vegas at the "Chapel of flowers" I can't remember exact costs but I think for
Suit and dress hire for us both and two dresses for our daughters
    Limo from hotel and back
    photos
live video steam online for family and friends to watch
plus a basic non religious ceremony was around $1,800AUD

The place is pretty nice and people are friendly.

You will need to arrange a marriage licence before you arrive it ensures you skip the courthouse lines down town ( although those can be fun especially when he went on the 11/12/13 (US Month/Date/Year) you can do it online and it costs like $40 from memory.

The Luxor is pretty aged and right down the wrong end of the strip, I would stay more central like Mirage or caesars palace personally.
we've spent the last two years staying at MGM Grand and Aria both pretty good hotels but the rooms in Aria are much nicer, next March we've booked at the Monte Carlo because I got a pretty good deal from Mlife.

My advice is to create a new Facebook account and join myvegas http://cyberbuzz.com/play-perfect-myvegas-strategy-get-chips…
it allows you to basically play slots and earn real rewards, it seems as though a lot of the free room rewards are no longer available but it will still allow you to get 3 Buffet for two rewards in a 30day period for each player. The last two times my wife and I went we eat buffet every night for free

Vegas is full of hustlers and scammers and worst of all timeshare scalpers. just ignore them or say you're local that seemed to work or say "leaving today"

signup to Mlife as well as they seem to have cheaper deals direct than going via a 3rd party site.

hope that helps (I Love Vegas)

    • hey mate - thanks for the info.. just wanted to check on redemption.. how many rewards were you able to redeem per day and in total… i read somewhere that there is a limit of only 3 rewards within 30 days?
      appreciate your resposne.. cheers

      • that was correct, but I think its 3 from MGM group and some don't count.
we went again in March just gone and managed do like 3 buffets again but we didn't bother redeeming rewards for hotel rooms this time.

        • thanks Ols108 - yeah i am thinking of only utilizing them foe lunches n dinners and wondwering if i could have a lunch and a dinner redeemed on the same day..

or 2 x 2-for-1 dinner on the same day as we would be 4 adults

  • We did it 5 years ago, wanted to embrace the tack but not in a chapel. We got married under the Welcome to Las Vegas sign by an Elvis impersonator. He picked us up in a pink Cadillac that Lucille Ball once owned, Priscilla and Elvis had a pink caddy. He belted out a couple of tunes and drove us up and down the strip afterwards. There was a minister there, Elvis organised, who stepped in for about a min as Elvis was setting up and actually married us. We didn't know how it worked and were caught off guard when he announced we just got married, we thought he was there as an official witness. Then Elvis went through like he was marrying us. Elvis photographer was dire, worst photos ever. It was good fun. Elvis was called Jesse Garren. Cost us bout $US700 back then. We had to pay the photographer and minister separately but that 700 included everything You have to buy your marriage license at the city registry office the day before. You can actually get married there for about $100 but might have to book.

  • We got married at the Graceland Wedding Chapel.

After the ceremony Elvis (everyone called him Elvis, so he must have been the real deal!)asked us whether we would have wanted anything else, and we told him that we really wanted him to marry us while we were in a pink Cadillac convertible at a drive-through window.

He said "Sir, even Elvis is not that tacky."

Neither of us are Elvis fans, but it seemed a wonderfully tacky thing to do in one of the tackiest cities around while we were living in the States.
Lots of friends flew over from Oz to be there, and it was an absolute hoot.

    Go for it!

As mentioned you need a licence. The courthouse that issues them is open 24 hours on weekends, but not weekdays.
So if you need to get married at 3am before your 8am Thursday flight you are out of luck.
Don't ask how I know, but the hotel concierge was very apologetic he couldn't sort it out.

  • Hi, my friend got married in Vegas in 2010, and it is the best wedding I have ever been to. 45 people travelled to the wedding. It was held in Wynn Casino, and the reception was at Bolero - Wynn Encore. The atmosphere and food was sensational. He got married on a Tuesday night, which allowed for festivities over the previous weekend.

We stayed at 2 different venues - Palazzo and Paris. Luxor is too far away to enjoy all that the Strip has to offer. You can get Paris or Planet Hollywood for $50/night; stay closer to the centre of the Strip.

    • Yep did this too a few years ago. Bachelor party went and shot some guns, then went to a club and got drunk for basically free because people were buying us drinks all over the place.
