Best Tasting Nespresso Machine (Espresso Only)

do different nespresso machines actually make the espresso taste better standardising for the pod type (i.e using the same pods as a comparison)? Or are the more expensive ones just have more features (like milk frother etc)

if it does taste better, which are the best consumer nespresso machines for espresso? willing to pay up to $1k if there is a benefit

there are lots on the Nespresso site but i don't know whether i am just paying for features that i do not need if i buy a more expensive one. I just care about espresso.

do NOT buy a capsule machine if your budget is $1k

buy a proper one, with a grinder (separate or built in) then you can shop for the beans

the result is very very very good coffee

    DO NOT BUY CAPSULES

    we have one of these
https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Coffee-and-Beverages/Espresso-Mac… that we got on a special for $450

and a grinder https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Coffee-and-Beverages/Coffee-Grind… on special at $200

if you want to get an entry level machine - this is very good to have a go, https://www.sunbeam.com.au/Coffee-and-Beverages/Espresso-Mac… for not too much $$$

    • i want a capsule machine for convenience. non capsule ones require too much work.

How the hell is this post getting negs?
Capsule coffee is crap, no matter what machine it comes out of.

For $1000, you're into Automatic territory. Need to tip out the used grinds versus tip out the used capsules.
If that's too much hard work for you then you don't care what your coffee tastes like at all, just buy the cheapest capsule machine you can find or perhaps a tin of International Dust.

      • Hi scubacoles and oscargamer

Are you saying there are coffee machines that will grind and create espresso automatically, then all I need to do is tip out the used coffee powder periodically? If so that is acceptable!

And you are saying using these machines with beans from the supermarket will taste better than pods?

          Yes, an Automatic machine
          1) pour beans and water in the top
          2) press a button and it grinds and Extracts
          3) drink
every week or so you'll need to empty the used grinds, not powder, they'll be (or at least should be) solid discs - if not, then you'll need to adjust the grind size down.
every 1-3 month run a cleaning and descale cycle - which you should be doing on a pod machine as well, but I'm not sure it is possible - they probably want it to burn out so you buy a new one every couple of years.

          4) Beans from the supermarket wont give you great coffee. Buy your beans freshly roasted from a coffee roaster. Manna Beans and Sweet Yarra Coffee do deals here on OzB all the time.

The coffee from an Auto will still be inferior to a good quality manual machine/grinder and well below a specialty coffee shop, but the difference between capsule and Auto, especially when you're drinking espresso, is dramatic. (and as an added bonus it'll be cheaper per cup)

@scubacoles: I've heard that the waste / used grinds are good for the garden.. is that true?

Another bonus of not going with pods = better for the environment, less going to landfill.

        • @waterlogged turnip:
Ants/snails don't like them. And I've also heard that the grinds are high in Sulfur (which makes sense, coffee flavours are Sulfur containing compounds).
We Chuck them into the compost.

  • With the pod machines, it's to my understanding that the taste of the coffee is dependent on the capsules you're using, and not the actual machine itself. But depending on how you like your coffee, you may want one of the more expensive models, which can include functions like setting your own pour times for the capsules, or frothing the milk simultaneously while pouring the coffee so that they come out together into your cup. I myself am pretty happy with the Nespresso Inissia machine, paired with the Aeroccino 3 milk frother and Nespresso capsules, which I got from one of the ozb deals.

    • Yes I can taste the difference between different capsule flavours and brands. I already have an Inissia but was after a second machine, so was considering whether to upgrade.

I was after people's experience in whether the machine improves the taste on the same pod type. Are you saying for the same pod a $100 machine's espresso will taste the same as a $800 machine?

I will re-word my post to clarify

  • yes - it's the pod that makes the coffee

an $800 pod machine will make the same coffee as a $100 pod machine

there are machines that take different brands of pods though……

    • great! answer i was looking for! will look into the automatic grinders now

  • just read your post scubacoles

    totally agree

if the OP wants good coffee then pods are sh*t, but obviously it's too much effort to grind beans to make a proper coffee…..his / her loss

  • What about nespresso pixie I have over a month i love nespresso https://bestbuyerguides.com/best-nespresso-machine
